I'm just watching this for the 4th time. This anime came out the year I discovered anime - 2011. That must have been one of the best years for anime to come along for a while. I don't think Stein's Gate won any awards at all but I'm not really savvy on this. Anyone know? Aside from Attack on Titan, I don't know what other anime came out that could compete for becoming a classic that year.

Am I biased? Is it not as good as I remember?

Personally I thought it was great, but I don't think it deserves nearly the amount of praise that it gets.

As for other classics that came out that year, Anohana, Madoka Magica and Hunter X Hunter come to mind.

I'm pretty sure that there was some sort of best anime of the year poll in Japan and Stein's Gate was in the top five or something like that- maybe it was number two. If I recall correctly, Puella Magi Madoka Magica got the number one spot.

Well Steins Gate is pretty mediocre actually, Idk why people like it so much. They look like a bunch of teenagers on acid yelling "Tuturuu" and listening to cicadas. Did SERN even appear? no there was no villain, no bad guy, just a bunch of crackheads making mistakes and then later trying to fix it. No point of all the mention of John Titor, or an evil organization if they didnt even appear.

Attack on Titan > Steins; Gate

I'd say HxH > Soul Eater > AoT > PP2 > Steins > DRRR

Attack on Titan > Steins; Gate

John Titor did appear. I think you need to rewatch the series...

Trust me, Steins;Gate is plenty popular and has won many awards. The Visual Novel has too.

Also it's ranked #2 on myanimelist.com

Also it's my second favorite anime ever. Absolutely phenomenal.

Nope, Steins; Gate is one of the best anime out there. You're not biased.

But Attack on Titan definitely didn't come out that year. Madoka did, though. And Madoka is also damn good.

I really liked Stein's;Gate. The charm of it was watching Okabe grow as a person. The numerous anime and geek references. The time travel plot. It was great for a B Sci-fi movie type of series.

The best part I suppose was how everything comes full circle and the beginning is actually the end.

There was an OVA and a Movie. Both pretty mediocre. The Movie was pointless.

I would say the Stein's;Gate is as good as Attack on Titan but for different reasons.

Steins;Gate is currently my favorite anime, (although I just started watching anime in winter 2013, Iv'e still seen plenty.) I only have seen 2 anime that I know aired in 2011, Steins;Gate and Madoka Magica, both of which are in my top 10. Attack on Titan however was a 2013 anime .

One of the best imo at least from 2011.

Honestly, I didn't get into the series much until around half way but the comedy of it was spot on and appealing to me so the entire experience was pretty damn fun. S;G does not need a sequel either (well it got a movie and some specials). the ending was satisfying.

Well, the series is different for everyone. It is my favorite anime and I ended up buying the visual novel- limited edition, pre-order the movie and the whole series when it was being releasing as BR-DVD combo AND a light novel in Japanese with a drama CD...with plans to buy the rest of the series(spin-off). So I spent a quite a bit of money for this series since for me, it is one of the best anime I ever saw; I have been watching anime since mid-2000's. Don't know if it got any awards or any anime from 2011 but if you enjoyed it, kudos and glad you like it :D.

I'd put it up there with some of my favorite shows. It took me a long time to finally watch it though. I watched the first episode when the show original aired, but never anything past that for a very long time. Eventually bought the whole season from Funi on Blu-ray but still didn't end up watching it for a year or so after that. I do tend to like stories with Time Travel as a central story element, but I just really liked watching the characters in this show. The english dub might be one of my favorites as well.

Attack on Titan > Steins; Gate

Attack on Titan and Steins;Gate are two completely different types of stories. Comparing them is idiotic. Also, it sounds like you weren't paying attention to what actually happened in Steins;Gate so you're not really a fit judge.

My husband and I just finished Steins;Gate for the first time a few days ago and were blown away by it. My husband is a long time fan of science fiction and this series quickly rocketed into his top 5 anime. As a science fiction story it's top notch. Just really excellent. And it's use of time travel is probably the best I've ever seen. I loved how it escalated from mere short messages to memories to full body travel. The way the world lines changed was very well done. And we loved all the characters. Okabe with his mad scientist persona was great right from the start. The show triumphed on many levels for us. It worked great as a sci fi thriller story, it also had some great humor, likeable characters and a few episodes where the feels were so strong we were reduced to tears. Loved, loved, loved this series.

It's truly fantastic. It's in my top 10 of all times for sure.

I must also command the dub. It makes a point of not trying to mimic the japanese version and standing on its own.
