People aren't going to change their mind about religion with only a few videos and links. Even if you provide them people will still retort it. For people their religion and what they believe is close to being told that the sky is blue their whole life. Then by telling them it isn't that but actually green, red, or anything else it sounds impossible. The hardest people to convince are the ones who don't think critical and only have blind faith, you would have better luck with an academic scholar.

So they are stupid people that need enlightenment?

I am just giving advice to the person who started the form. If she wants to have a deep conversation about it, it would be better to talk to someone who is a scholar and went to school for it. Or maybe become a scholar herself if she feels so passionate about this. Now there is some people who study what their beliefs are heavily, and some don't causing it to be more of a blind faith. Blind faith is great, but not if you are talking about having a critical conversation wanting answers to questions. That is why I said she should go to academic scholar because they will have more concrete information.

The academics are easier convince. That's your advice? Convince of what exactly?

It is because this is a heavy talk and a lot at play. Many theories are added into it and people's beliefs. If she wants to talk about something so heavy and have a conversation with "critical thinking" I am saying it would be smart to talk to a scholar who has been studying this. It is only a small piece of advice, I am sure there is more people who have given their own different opinions or have their own input. It is up to her to listen to it or not.

It both bemuses and baffles me that the thread lasted this long, is all, and I wonder what about it makes it so entertaining for people to encourage.

I wonder why people are so easily entertained by these threads done over and over and over again on forums spread all across the WWW, and the answer becomes clear. People are entertained by feeling like their opinions really matter when in in the real world they do not. It's a fantasy.

How can you be baffled when you answered your own question? And while your conclusion is true, I'd like to add that this thread is about religion. And everyone knows topic draws people like moths to the flame.

It is indeed possible that some form of higher power exists.
However, considering the nature of the abrahamic religion, and the large amounts of scientific falsehoods, contradictions, logical inconsistencies, etc. it is almost certainly NOT Yahweh.

At least not in the way he's portrayed in religion.

I honestly don't care what other people believe. Whatever get them through the day. Some people need a higher power to blame when things go wrong, and praise when things go right. Subconsciously, they just can't come to grips with the fact that it could all come down to chance, with no rhyme or reason. As long as they don't bother me, they can be as religious as they want. Now, when they start forcing it on others... That's where I start to have a problem.
