So basically I've gotten into harem recently. A lot of the ones that I remember enjoying have made me laugh due to all the comedy moments or they've gripped me with some good action. Problem is I seem to be running out of quality ones. These are the ones I can remember watching/reading actually.

Sekirei
Sora no Otoshimmono
Rasario+Vampire (MANGA! The anime was a disappointment)
Infinite Stratos
Trinity Seven
Shuffle!

Strike the Blood (felt more harem at the start then the end. Don't like the way it ended, kinda ruined the whole gaggle of girls part even when there's story left to be told. Rather wait till the end to figure out who the "main" girl is actually if possible)

Campione
Highschool DxD (manga, haven't gotten 'round to the anime)
Date a Live
Girls Bravo
The Fruit of Grisaia (Anime & VN)

I know I've watched more but none come to mind. And I want harem, not reverse harem. But if you don't have any good harems to recommend, at least something that has a strong focus on a relationship but where there's something else to watch for, action/comedy/mystery. Manga, Anime, or VN, whatever you got you think I'd enjoy based on this list just let me know.

There was an extensive Harem King contest thread not too long ago, perhaps you can draw inspiration from there: /forumtopic-832621/battle-royal-the-quest-to-be-the-harem-king

So Clannad, Bakemonogatari, and Toradora are all really good anime with some harem elements--but none of them are true harems like what you describe. Still, all are excellent shows.

More on point:

Drama/Mystery harems:
Umi no Misaki (manga only; seriously, if you want a true harem that's well done, this is the place to go)
IO (manga only)

Action harems:
Familiar of Zero
Aria the Scarlet Ammo
Freezing (I didn't like the show, but if you like Sekerie you should check it out)
The Ambition of Oda Nobuna

Comedic Harems:
Love Hina (anime not awful, but manga is way better)
To Love Ru (anime not awful, but manga is way better)
Mayo Chiki (I love the manga; the anime is solid)
The World God Only Knows
Nisekoi
Moishiro Symphony
Nyan Koi
Please Twins!
Oreshura
Haganai
Kiss x Sis (anime is pretty bad; manga is funny, if incest doesn't bother you)
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
Kanokon (the manga is pretty good; anime sucks)
Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka
Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi (A Bridge to the Starry Sky)
Kanojo ga Flag (If her Flag Breaks)

Omnibus harems (that is, guy gets each girl, in succession):
Amagami SS
Yosuga no Sora

Thanks for the responses.

Clannad is a no-go for me. Tried the VN and had to push through the girl that I liked the most just to say that I had done the thing. Don't have high hopes for the anime.
Love Hina was like, my first ever manga so I've got that one in the bag, also explains why I forgot about it.
To Love Ru, need to try the manga.
The World God Only Knows is in my watchlist.
Familiar of Zero I've heard about but haven't gotten around to it. Need to do this one before Familiar of Zero F?

As for the rest of the list that's posted here, will have to check out for sure. Anything you recommend first to sink my teeth into? Like anything that's actually finished.

Other ones that come to mind that I have seen, thanks to the link's list, are:

Demon King Daimou
Dragon Crisis
Sword Art Online (But I don't count this as one, I mean he HAS A DAUGHTER WITH ASUNA! I could rant on that for hours but will leave it at that. )
Tayutama Kiss on my Deity
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Chaos;Head (This was one I couldn't get into though)

I haven't seen Tenchi Muyo mentioned!

If you really feel like laughing, start with one of the original Tenchi series.

Seriously, any plot line that lasted for 5 full series, 3 full-length feature films, and several spin-offs must have something going for it. Right?

I'm not very familiar with Demon King, Dragon Crisis, or Tayutama Kiss. You're right that SAO isn't much of a harem; Kirito never has eyes for anyone besides Asuna, and the fact that the other girls are attracted to him doesn't add much to the plot. Baka to Test... I've read the LNs (which start off really funny, but the jokes get old), and a bit of the manga; I hear that the anime isn't very good, so I didn't bother. And the Chaos; Head anime is somewhat infamous for taking a great game and making it into a bad anime, though I haven't seen or played either.

Familiar of Zero: There are actually four seasons of this. The First is just called Familiar of Zero, then comes Futatsuki no Kishi, then Princess no Rondo, and F is the fourth season. Each one is a continuation of the previous. Note that the first season does stand alone pretty well--although if you make it all the way to the end of the fourth season, it has an excellent ending.

As for where to start
Manga: I would start with Umi no Misaki. It's more on the dramatic side than the comedic side, but it avoids unnecessary melodrama, and it's one of the only harems you'll ever see where the guy actually tries to take time to get to know--and fall in love--with each of the girls (instead of just being pushed around by events).

Anime: Please Twins is a classic for a reason; art is a bit outdated, but it's very solid, and it comes to a satisfying resolution. The other place I would start is Haganai; there are two seasons, and while the second season does end on a bit of a cliff hanger, it's a very good show, and a nice jumping off point for other School Life Harem anime.

If Her Flag Breaks and H2O: Footprints in the Sand are both very good.
Recently started Oreshura, and it's pretty great as well.
All available on this site.
If you use Funimation, try Haganai or Steins;Gate
