God dammit! So there's nothing CR can do then? Fucking A.......

I just don't understand why the broadcast company couldn't request for an uncensored version for CR? Is that really that hard? All they'd have to do is ask the studio to give them an uncensored version and they send it to CR. Also, why is that we got uncensored titles like Terra and AgK? How was that even possible? Seems to me the broadcaster was feeling generous, so that would mean the broadcaster could in fact get CR uncensored content if they wanted to!! So I'm calling bullshit on the publishers!

TV Tokyo and YTV are some of the bigger publishers CR works with to my knowledge, so unless they get uncensored content, yeah right, for TV broadcast, then CR would have to license directly from the studio or production committee instead. That process is a lot more arduous and costly and I can't imagine it happening in time for most simulcasts. Catalog titles, maybe, simulcasts, not so much. FUNi has the same issue with broadcast only content until they get the home video rights and then home video materials months or years later.

Sadly, there is nothing CR can do that is practical in regards to simulcasts being uncensored at this juncture. Would need the business climate in Japan to stop being so rigid for starters and that's not happening anytime soon. It's a miracle they are getting Terra Formars uncensored at a later date at all tbh, and probably cost them a decent amount to make it happen.

I wouldn't pay more for uncensored shows because the stuff that is censored usually doesn't effect the story. On the other hand, censorship can effect the impact of the subject being portrayed or a specific message. No anime should be censored since its an art form!

But the fact of the matter is that barely anyone even buys blurays here in the west. I just wish there was some alternative for us subscribers, but as Sonic said it looks pretty grim.

No. Anime straight from Japan shouldn't be censored in the first place.

They are too expensive to own in mass and as the Creator of this thread said, the West just doesn't consume as in Japan.

The title says it all really.

If CR somehow negotiated with distributors and allowed for a membership plan to give uncensored content at a higher price, would you jump ship and pay for it? Probably depends on the price, but if wasn't too much more then I think I would do it.

Nothing is worse than getting black bars and white lines. Most westerns don't even buy blurays, so I wouldn't mind paying more to have uncensored content streaming on CR.

What do you guys think?

Are you kidding me?

That is one of the most greatest ideas I've ever seen.

It's not about paying more it's about what channels Crunchyroll gets the anime from that has it censored. Akame Ga Kill was uncensored because of the channel Crunchyroll got it from.

Of course I don't buy blurays! I don't have a bluray player!

/spent, on average, 3-400$ on DVDs per year over the last three years.
//will probably spend more as I get moving on replacing VHS content...
///VHS is a type of magnetic tape storage medium for audiovisual material which can be played back by a device called a VCR.
//think of it like a BluRay that doesn't last as long and you have to rewind
/or a mini film projector

I do not understand why some people think paying extra for an uncensored version is acceptable; this is content that is supposed to be there in the first place.

No difference. My imagination can cover the corners.

I'd pay an extra dollar.
