Christmas & Easter are both Christian holidays I'm pretty sure. Valentines Day & Halloween are commercial holidays.
The point is for people to just have something to do or an excuse to see & hang out with family imo without work getting in the way for some.
But there are holidays that I considered pointless tbh. Like Columbus Day.

St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus, aka Valentines Day,

December 25 in ancient Rome was the 'Dies Natali Invictus,' 'the birthday of the unconquered,' the day of the winter solstice and at the same time, in Rome, the last day of the Saturnalia, which had long since degenerated into a week of unbridled carnival, aka Christmas.

According to many scholars, All Hallows' Eve is a Christianized feast initially influenced by Celtic harvest festivals, with possible pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic Samhain.

Most historians, including Biblical scholars, agree that Easter was originally a pagan festival. According to the New Unger’s Bible Dictionary says: “The word Easter is of Saxon origin, Eastra, the goddess of spring, in whose honour sacrifices were offered about Passover time each year. By the eighth century Anglo–Saxons had adopted the name to designate the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.” However, even among those who maintain that Easter has pagan roots, there is some disagreement over which pagan tradition the festival emerged from.

For some holidays have real meaning and people still celebrate them for others that don't have the chance to see family for various reasons it makes for a good time to see them.

I think most holidays of today like Independence Day or President's Day, hell even Mother's day to me is pointless. They're an excuse to get time off from work/school and for greeting cards to make money.

I do like Japanese festivals and I'm sure there are other countries that have their own holidays that make sense and have actual meaning behind them more so than ours.

Whether we like them or don't like them they're here to stay and will only get more commercialized as time goes on.

They aren't necessary but they help with family time and let people enjoy the time of our lives. Sometimes u just need a break for everyone on the same day so u can get to meet up with people have fun and all. Otherwise i don't see any point of these holidays besides company profits and etc. I love them they get your spirits high even though i do have thoughts about how pointless they can be. I don't bother celebrating Easter anymore. Just my opinion.

They're unnecessary if I don't get to have a day off. Otherwise, they're great and totally necessary.

There's a lot of things we could consider unnecessary, but why bother?

Holidays give me an opportunity to kick back and watch a few episodes of my favorite anime, King of the Hill
