I think it would be great if Crunchyroll offered offline viewing. I travel a lot and I don't always have access to internet.

I don't know if there is a place in Crunchyroll to place feature requests, that is why I am posting here.

If they don't feel comfortable allowing us to watch anything offline, they could do something similar to what Pluralsight offers with its trainings.
You can download for viewing offline just up to so many videos and to watch more you have to remove the ones you have already watched.

Is there a better place for posting this? I think it would be great to be able to have offline viewing!

I like the idea and I'm sure Crunchyroll would love to offer more options for their customers, but sans some nefarious digital rights management scheme, I think the original copyright holders would have a problem with CR allowing downloads. I'm not even sure DRM would assuage their fears.

The Suggestions / Feedback forum is the correct place (it's in the "Help" section of the forums), and I've moved this there.

I know I love being able to download a few things from Amazon Instant Video for watching on my iPad or Kindle when I don't have internet access, and it would be great if I could do that with Crunchyroll! However, there are DRM issues, as Hairbelly mentions so I'm not sure what the chances are that CR could make it happen here.

They could use an approach like PSN does, it's a custom file playable on your system's interface (Crunchy Roll would use an app format to play them) you download them but like PSN there is a timer for how long you can have to watch this for, typically a one day allowance (24hrs). After this the video downloaded becomes locked or deleted and unwatchable. It's an older practice carried over from most old pc game demos. But combine that with a system check to see if the content is still on the harddrive. Would be a fairly strong form of DRM.

Thanks Lorreen for moving my post to the correct forum.
I understand there are copy right issues, but I think that the only people they damage with these restrictions are legit customers. There is going to be piracy anyways, they get the copies from other sources.
Having a proprietary format like LordBane999 suggests could do the trick. I am pretty sure that as it is they already can use the stream for piracy purposes, so they really are only limiting people that is not interested in piracy.

Even while most DRM methods can be circumvented, our content partners in Japan insist on them being used.

From my experience (not based on CR):
Especially for permanent local retention of high quality material some of the parties involved would probably insist on a pricing on par with that of a disc release. From what I know that sort of model was/is being tested by several services, but was never deemed successful, due to high prices and therefore small numbers of customers.

The ability to pre-cache full episodes for offline viewing would be nice. And I assume at least slightly less pricey than permanent downloads.

I know there are still legal issues surrounding this but it really is the next step for mobile apps. After all, "long journey" doesn't always equal "internet connection". I could, for example, theoretically watch a whole episode or two of something (in each direction) when I go for a day-trip to London. In practice, though, the train goes through several tunnels and signal deadspots.

BBC's iPlayer app does this and I think the Android YouTube app does? It would be nice if CR were able to figure out a way to be allowed to do this.

Licensors would consider that a download for rental.

Regarding the Android YouTube app, I am curious if would allow you to do that with protected content. Have you checked if that works with any of the licensed anime on YouTube, such as some of the Gundam episodes on the GundamInfo channel, for example?
