I am thinking of purchasing Final Fantasy IV for the 3DS. Is it true, this game is the best FF of all time?

Yes, yes it is. I absolutely love this game. Such a great villain and storyline.

:D :D

When I was a kid I actually bought Final Fantasy 2 (the American release) to force my parents hand at buying me a SNES for Christmas.

(It totally worked, they got me one.)

But this is one of my favorite Final Fantasies!!!

It is fun, but I like the more modern games. They are much more story-driven, with a lot more dialogue. FF XII is my favorite, but VII, VIII, Tactics, and X are all better than IV. By the way, you should get the PSP version of IV because it comes with The After Years and and in-between scenario as well.

imo 6 is best, but that doesn't stop 4 from being one of the best final fantasy's. Also an opinion, 3ds version with the completely revamped 3d graphics is the best way to play it. The iconic 2d sprites are also very good though so it really depends on your personal tastes.

6 is definitely the best, but 4 does hold up as a very strong game. I also have a lot of personal attachment to 4 so even though I don't consider it to be the best, I do sometimes consider it to be my favourite. I'm not really sure how the 3DS version stands up though as I believe it's a polygonal remake of the game and not the original release (or even a port of the original).

Interesting, I've never heard of IV suggested as the best but the way you put that, clearly you've heard a few people suggest that opinion.

IV is a great game, I only finished it myself last summer. In terms of the old FFs (pre PS1) In my opinion it's second only to VI.

Great characters and an enjoyable story. I'd recommend it to any FF fan

I've been hearing many great things about VI as well. I'm going to give IV a shot, and then VI will be next.

Be advised that the DS version of FF4 is one of the most difficult. You will need to do a fair bit of grinding. IMO, the best version of the game (which helpfully includes its sequel, The After Years) is the PSP Complete Collection, but FF4 DS has its own merits.

Either way, 'tis a good game, and it holds up. I am another one of those who has been playing since the SNES days, and I can vouch for it (though, IMO, the best of the series is FF6, but that is a debate for another topic, another time).

No it's not true since it's entirely opinion based.
My favorite final fantasy for example is Final Fantasy IX
