Well, I never seen/heard of that show, but if it was a real show. I'd feel sorry for the children being on the show, because the teenagers probably have no idea how to take care of the kid; thus resulting injuring the child or something of that kind.

though I see you have a point there about scaring the teenagers too much from having a child. But, really, as they grow up they'll come to see the good and bad of being a parent, from that show they may start to love/like kids AND realize the things they have to give up to take care of a kid. So therefore they'll think two times or more before having unprotected sex next/this time. Then they'll/can wait till they're older then have a child to enjoy all the things that happen to them.

if you think you can realize all those (by you, i mean the person whom wrote that) things that you listed in your post, don't you think other people will also have the intelligent to realize them? Teenagers are also humans, they're not dumb. =) (in...well, okay most teenagers ARE dumb, but smart to a degree where they'll know the effects of things xD and sooner or later they'll realize the good points of being a parent; just like you said.)

I agree, it's disgusting, wrong, and just plain stupid. I would NEVER give my baby to some random teenager. And to film the whole thing, it just makes me sick.....Whatever parents would agree to give their baby to this tv show needs to be horsewhipped *although being drawn and quatered would work just as well* and doesn't deserve to be a parent to begin with.

So would you agree with the show if they used orphan babies.

Of course not what a disgusting question. And it doesn't even make sense - That's not what I said at all. All I said is that parents who agree to it should be punished. If they use children from orphanges/foster care whatever, then those children's guardians/caretakers whatever should suffer the same punishment as the parents. I wouldn't agree to the show *would have the same opiniont about it* no matter what child was used - regardless of race/sex/or family situation. Just b/c u don't agree w/ me is no reason to make those kind of sickening assumptions.

don't you know? "safe sex is no sex"
even if you use protection you'll probably: get pregnant, get aids, get a series of other diseases, go through heartbreak, never amount to anything, be a horrible parent, lose any ties to your life that you have, disappear from the world, give birth to a crack baby, and probably die...maybe you'll even get cancer somehow since every thing's a carcinogen too.
Pssh, abstinence only my ass

Yeah they tried to teach that in my school too, back in the early 90's.. 'till i stood up in class, and said, "so are you saying that i shouldn't ever have sex, if i dont' want children? I don't think my future husband will appreciate that.... can we learn about reality now please?" (Yeah i was an outspoken bitch back then - wait...)

Here's a reality check.

Reality shows are scripted. Contrary to what they may have you believe, they don't simply hand a camera to a guy and say, "Hey, go watch what these folks are doing for a few hours and then get back to us."

Not to mention, they're constantly being monitered. Apparantly, the parents and a professional nanny were on-site and watching with the ability to intervene at any given moment. If they messed up, the parents could step in, before they tried again. The stuff you see on television may very well be a second or third attempt at getting something "right". The chances of a child being physically or mentally traumatized are zero, simply 'cause the producers would stand to lose quite a bit of money in lawsuits.

So with that said, I took a look at this show on Wiki, just 'cause the original post was somewhat unclear. Here's a summary.

"The Baby Borrowers is a reality TV show produced by Love Productions for BBC Three. The show features five couples aged between 16 and 19. They start off attempting to look after a baby for three days, before moving onto toddlers, pre-teens, teenagers and finally an elderly person."

Imagine the emotional trauma the babies will go through as they are passed around to random strangers who are supposed to act like their parents. I feel so bad for the kids being used in this horrific experiment.

(And yes, music190, I realize these aren't your words.)

Three days? Somehow I doubt any of the infants and most of the younger kids will remember this event in their lives, much less need therapy for it.

music190 wrote:
What really bothers me the most about what this will do to the teens, who are contestants on this show, is the false sense of parenting they will receive.

...

The thing this show cannot replace or simulate is that love between a parent and their child. The show can never come close to showing the teens the bonding that takes place and the intense connection that a mom and dad have with their baby.

lol. Did this individual feed their children differently than those on the show would? Or change their diapers a special way? Having a baby doesn't suddenly turn you into an exemplary mother and/or father, and there are plenty of people out there doing a horrible job of parenting because of this fact. I'm also reasonably certain that there are a number of, if not many, couples who don't undergo this emotional blossoming of love and inspiration once a spouse becomes pregnant.

... Now we are showing them that they are nothing more than a burden, that will make us crazy for ever wanting to have had them in the first place. Do you really wonder why kids shoot up schools, kill themselves, get addicted to drugs, and end up in prison?

Right. I find this statement, like most of his assertions, completely biased and unfactual, as well as illogical. I'm sure Colombine occured because those kids were taken care of inept handlers for three days during their infancy.

This show is meant first and foremost as entertainment. Not education. As for condemning it as immoral, well, I suppose that depends on your view of immorality.

There are schools even today who are kept from offering Sexual Education as immoral and disgusting. Others are told only to teach abstinence, hoping to keep kids in the dark about the availability of and options in birth control and sexual protection, believing this will stifle any attempts at sexual intercourse.

Studies have show that this is not only a failure, but probably more dangerous than a complete sexual education in terms of the spread of STD's and unwanted pregnancies.

Not to mention, most parents are too embarrassed or misinformed to properly educate their children about sex and it's repercussions and/or the options available to them. Most parents teach abstinence at home, resulting in -- see above. But I'm getting besides the point.

This show is just another show. Calling it immoral doesn't make it so.

i dont think its wrong. >.> Kill me if you want to, but I just don't think it's wrong. I think that if the teens dont want to have kids, thats a thing to celebrate. Honestly, overpopulation is happening all over the world, don't just blame it one China.

I don't know who could "lend" their babies to a
show to teach teenagers how raising a child is really like.

Personally, they'd have to have their own,
wouldn't they?
If it was me, with someone else's kid--
I wouldn't learn much.
I don't love the kid, so therefore,
I'm just like a babysitter--just on tv.

That's just my thoughts on it.
I don't think they can really grasp what parenting is like
unless it's their own kin.

I asked that question because I was honestly curious. I didn't mean to offend you.
In any case, after thinking about this further I realized that this show is exploiting children. The majority of reality tv shows are immoral in some way. Rarely does this cause a drop in ratings, if anything it's more popular.

3 days ? And thats suppose to teach reality?

Hell yeah, if i could have 4 day off a week of kids, i'll be the happiest in the world. (not really because after 5 minutes i'll start to miss them... like when its the babysitter, you wanna call every 5 minutes... )
I guess those teen wont have to work, go to school, cook, do laundry, deal with the social pressure and the fact people will judge them. Actually, they will be PAID for taking care of the babies...

Its like a 3 days babysitting party! yay!

such a waste of time. Its not gonna teach anything to anyone.

Make them work 60hrs a week as a waitress and then come back home taking care of the baby, making the oldest do homework, do chores and such... Make them being point at in the street....

They make it sound like being a teen single mother is a party.

Make me so angry.
