What are your favorite anime that have strong themes of friendship and family? I'm looking for more light-hearted shows.

For example, I really like the Elric brothers' dynamic in Fullmetal Alchemist, the friendships in Angel Beats, the friendships in Ouran High School Host Club (especially the hilarious friendship between Tamaki and Kyouya), the friendships in Hunter x Hunter, and the focus on family in Kyousougiga.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Barakamon
Natsume Yuujinchou

I am extremely biased towards both of these.

On the lighter side:
- Bunny Drop is about the relationship between child and adopted parent
- Kotoura-San: Mostly about acceptance of each other's strangeness; sub-plot about mother is one of show's highlights.
- Fruits Basket: Most of the sub-plots revolve around a plethora of ways that family can screw people up--but the main thrust of the show is about the healing power of friendship.
- Golden Time: Strong themes about building friendships (and romance) with scarred people.
- Listen to Me Girls, I am Your Father: About a young uncle raising his three nieces in order to keep them from being separated.

A bit more dramatic/darker:
- Myself; Yourself: Largely about how families can screw people up--and how their friendships can help put them back together.
- The Fruits of Grisaia: Strong themes about forgiving family and friends for the wrongs they might (or might not) have done to you.
- Clannad/After Story: All about family relationships, how they can scar and heal.

Wandering Son i think very much fits the bill and it's very underrated. Kids On The Slope is billiant. Welcome To The NHK has some dark depressing moments but overall it's a really heartwarming story about two people who feel completely lost finding each other.

I just finished watching Kimi Ni Todoke, and it's really a great show.

It's about a girl in highschool who is alienated because her classmates think she resembles the ghost from The Ring. So she is teased and alone for most of her life, but she's also like the sweetest most positive person and she starts to make friends. My face hurts from grinning and laughing so much while watching it. It's really emotional, and there are some times where you'll probably cry, but most of them happy tears cause she's just so damn likeable you'll be happy for her.

It's a romantic comedy, but it really focuses more on her friendship with her two female friends, at least for the first season.

I really enjoyed Wagnaria, just one of those shows that I was smiling and in a good mood after watching a few episodes.

Also, Henneko was enjoyable for me and had a very heartwarming ending.

Someone above mentioned Papakiki, and I liked that one quite a bit as well.
