i get so sick and tired of this. some thing bad happens, so our hero finds out who and why. and then,....lets go. F*^K that, kill the bastard. get revenge.

thankfully crossange was the first...well ever that i have scene that was out for blood.

or it goes the other way, a totaly dark no one wins anime.

i want the good guy to settle the score some times. just put a f'ing bullet in his head and move on.

and i the only one?

i dropped argevollen becuase this is where it was heading. i get tired of all this forgiveness crap.

You're the only one.

I don't mind any trope to be honest. Well at least none come to mind.

most of the time I don't mind it, but yea, there have been times where I've basically screamed at my screen saying "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!" (Elfin Lied is the first that comes to mind). So it can bother me occasionally.

There are three anime that I know of that does allow the protagonist to get his revenge on someone.

argevollen This is why hate people who drop series for this or that. I no going to spoil the ending of argevollen but just know that more than 2 heads exploded in the last episode. and you would not see it coming.

As a devout, Evangelical Christian - I like seeing things like forgiveness in anime. It's good to see positive messages like that. I think we need more forgiveness of the wrongdoings people have done to us, not less

You should watch Psycho-Pass then. No one 'gets forgiven' in that series.

Argevollun was more of a political anime than anything else. I mean Tokimune becomes kind of irrelevant to the overall story after a while. There wasn't really any 'revenge' to be gotten perse. No one dies other than Tokimune's sister and that was before the series started, and she died because of malfunctioning technology. Sure what's his face blames himself, but it really wasn't his fault. He just felt guilty for being unable to save her. Although, yeah Argevollun was kind of underwhelming at the end, it wasn't a bad ending so much as it was kind of a bland ending. So you probably did right in dropping it.

Shonen series are typically about forgiveness though. It's mainly because the mangas for them are publicized in Shonen magazines and aimed for a 10-14 demographic. So they have to follow some moral guidelines that parents wouldn't get too upset about. You should watch Bakuman, it explains a lot of the politics and rules involved in the Shonen manga and anime business.

I don't mind it if it makes sense for the character to forgive them. Some people are too kindhearted to go through with revenge.

Speaking of vengeance, you should watch Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. Its based on one of the best revenge stories in the history of literature.

The only thing is that the forgiveness in anime typically isn't that 'moral' type of forgiveness.

Rather it is the type of forgiveness that is to teach the viewers to not be vigilantes and to let the law take care of criminals. Usually the story does not allow the main character to kill a villain because the main character isn't allowed to get his hands dirty for the sake of his integrity as a protagonist. However even if he forgives the antagonist it always follows one of two patterns, either A) The villain dies some brutal death anyway, karma catches up with him. or He tries to get revenge on the main character which forces the main character to kill him anyway, but out of self defense.

So the message in the end is not "everyone deserves forgiveness", it's "it's not your place to judge, no matter what."

Yeah, screw forgiveness; let's have all of our heroes think that every conflict should end with murder. They should all be rage driven because that would be totally heroic!

Romance triangles and love ones, its always the same damn result.
And teenage guys who act like they have never seen breasts on a female before, I mean seriously not even Japan is that introverted where a high scool guy would freak out from bumping into some chicks boobs.
Oh and everyones parents being 'overseas' in anime.
Or pretty much everything about SAO.

Thats all for me though.

I agree with you
This always bugs me especially in anime like kotoura-san, brave 10 and Tokyo ghoul. Seriously, why would they forgive any of them especially when the villain tried to kill the MC?
