Phone Model: Nexus Player
Streaming Via: 5G Wi-Fi
Service Provider: Northland Cable 25MB speed
Android OS: Android 5.0 "Lollipop"
App Version: 1.1.2

Past week or so, the Crunchyroll app will no longer play videos. All functions of the app appear to work correctly. You can navigate through different categories, select series and then a specific episode,

However when the episode is selected we get:

1. The loading animation spinner will display (then vanishes as if the video has started)
2. The video control at bottom displays properly and appear functional (play/pause, timeline, time remaining)
3. display is blank and video never appears.

The only solution for me at this point is to launch my computer and Cast the video to the Nexus Player.

The app appeared to work properly for about 6 weeks until about a week (or so) ago. Now I just get a black screen and no video.

Rebooting the Nexus Player does nothing to resolve the issue. Netflix, Google Movie, and all other video apps work properly with no issues.

Thank you,

tripperdan99

Sadly the "Casting" aspect of CR webpage isn't a true hand off to the Player (like you would have with Youtube) ... speculating here, but it sure seems like it

I was having the same issue. Don't know if it will help you, but I got it to play again after I downgraded the app from 1.1.2. I have several Android devices and using an older version of the app fixed the playback issue for all of them. So something has changed in the 1.1.2 to mess up Android playback.

Thanks Tygerpaw,

I'll need to hunt down an older apk. Think after all these years I'd learn about updating my CR player

To further test I purged the cache & data and tried to stream as a "non-login" status. The commercials play just fine but when it comes to streaming the actual episodes, it just dies. So there is certainly something HOSED about current 1.1.2 player

Now to search the www for the previous apk (can't imaging CR having older versions on website, but will certainly check there too)

**** it's the player ****

1.1.2 is FUBAR release, CR crapped the bed on this release

Found 0.9.6 at APKhere and I'm now back on line watching my anime

I had the same issue and rolling back works for me. Thanks TripperDan. Sadly it only does SD via the older app, so back to casting for now. I too would like to native support for the Nexus Player. Perhaps it's an x86 vs. ARM issue?

Wondering if 1.1.2 is behind the latest "the video is being prepared" message for shows that have been out for over the days... ALL OF THE RECENT SHOWS!!!!

I just got my 7 inch trekstor tablet today. Specifically to watch anime on. I have the same problem as you Tripperdan 99. Now I know why. Thanks for letting me know that it's the app thats FUBAR. Irretating to say the least. Hope Chrunchyroll fixes the problem ASAP
