personally (yes yes i know everyone got own taste in shows and such) i've disliked the shows like girlz und panzer, this new show with girls skiin on water and the likes. they are just horrible. i laughed so hard when one of the girls got shot and "sank" to the bottom of ocean. that was the call for me to call it quits on that specific serie.

they are horrible. i wish they would just go away.

Wait what? That sounds interesting...although, while a single modern destroyer probably could have flipped the outcome of Midway, it probably would not have been enough to win the war.

A look on wiki shows it is finished though, as of 2009.

Yeah I was going to say the same as some others Zipang was good but doesn't really
have an ending as an anime. I never read much of the manga but the show was good if
you like to watch shows with "future tech meets old tech" type. I know its history but
makes you think cause you see them talking about old Japan and how they are now.
That country changed so much in such a short amount of time its like they are different
people(They are). Its on Youtube eng sub(CC) not hard to find.

Thinking about it makes me want to rewatch it but the ending just doesn't satisfy IMHO.
For a first watch thought its not that bad.

The Wind Rises is a really good one about planes and it is made by Hayao Miyazaki, so you know you can't go wrong there. just amazing and the plot revolves around some true stories as well.

The Cockpit OVA series is about the only WW2 anime that I can think of that is actually set during the war and without any weird spin on it. It's pretty old, but you can find all three episodes on Youtube.

As for films, you have Grave of the Fireflies, Barefoot Gen, The Wind Rises, and Giovanni Island.

All in all, not too much WW2 anime to be honest, the war is a pretty touchy subject in Japan.

uuuwaaah! at last i found another guy who watched cockpit!!!not many people[at least in the net] know about this, its a great great ova!no spin or
bs joke in that!

There was an anime like that about ten years ago. It was about female pilots using their "virginal" powers to fly super powered planes during WWII. It's a shame I can't remember the name of the show.
