I ask for an IPA. If he gets it to me quickly with a lot of beer and a reasonable amount of foam, I am happy. If I ask for a double of Bacardi Gold and he gives me a full shot, I have no complaints. I don't bother with mixed drinks. I'll take a good beer or a double of Bacardi. Any bartender who can't do that should be looking for a new job.

Give me a 2 whole bottles of wine, 4 beer bottles, more whiskey, and more vodka with red bull all in the same day.

I honestly don't like going out that often now when I can have a collection of drinks myself and friends that are bartenders, drink mixers, along with friends that are down to drink.

I'd request a gin gimlet. I have a feeling that my preference of a gin gimlet isn't common, and I want to test it out. I like mine to have one part lime juice (not fresh), one part dry Tanqueray, cool (no ice), and nothing else.

I don't go out to drink, generally if I want a cocktail I'll make it at home with what I have available, but I would assume something simple, dry, and heavily focused on the balance through dilution from mixing would be a good test for a bartenders skill. Something like an Old Fashioned, or Martini or a similar spirit forward cocktail.

I usually just drink beer, but if I want to test them, and still get a decent drink, I ask them for their special drink. (If the bartender doesn't have a special drink that he/she is best at, they're not good enough).

A virgin mixed drink, and maybe, if I'm lucky, they'll mix my order up with someone of legal age.

Muahahaha.

A nice tall glass of..

Chocolate milk.
Even though I can legally drink, I prefer to stay sober.

I ask for water, then observe if they try to charge me for a bottle, or just do the normal thing and fill it from a tap.

Definitely has to be the Crown Float. Seen a few mess ups on the pouring of the Guinness.

If a bartender cant make a traditional martini or good long island ice tea he or she probably is not a good bartender.

Easy- Midori Sour.... If they do not use Midori run away fast. Too many places opt to not use it to be cheap so you know you will be paying the rest of the night for cheaply made watered down drinks.

Gin and Tonic is also a good one, messing it up or watering it down too much tells you what to expect.

Bourbon Neat (or any whiskey neat, you can also ask for straight. Means no ice no ice cold water)- if they don't know what that is you wont want to drink there. I've been to hole in the wall dive bars in the middle of no where US and they know what this is. I've been to very nice bars in a large cities where they have no idea.

Also for the kids who don't drink... we kinda expect you to not order a drink. But bonus points to all who know what a good drink is. While I recommend against being a drunk I find a good drink is an essential part of the life experience.
