Anybody going to Anime Matsuri here in Houston, Texas? Have you been before? If so, what is it like? Did you cosplay? I am going for the first time this year and don't really know what to expect. I'm not cosplaying or anything because of a lack of money and talent, although I thought of doing a male version of Maho Nishizumi from Girls und Panzer or Klein from SAO/ALfheim.

I've been there only once and it was last year.
in honest opinion, they tend to focus more on bishounen,(pretty boys) Visual Kei and Lolita Fashion than they do anime.
Their food got me sick and I ended up staying home the other days.
they had police officers checking badges(and they were not enthusiastic nor friendly)
The dealer's hall wasn't bad.
plenty of other stuff.
And to answer your questions, I'm not going nor do I plan on going again. Maybe if they change their focus and bring actual good music talent and cast members.. then I might come back.
Ither than that, there's AnimeFest in Dallas

Upon seeing some other reviews of last year and a friend who went, they all say it wasn't that great. Here's to hoping it's better this year. As for the talent, the only music act that I recognize is Heavygrinder which I believe is pretty popular and the only other person I recognize is the cosplayer Vampy. Other than that, I am going in completely blind. This is my first con period, so let's hope this year is good.

After last years shit storm of cancelations and bad set up I believe they're trying to do better. I know they're getting together with some US production companies to do panels and other things anime so thats a start.

I've gone to anime matsuri a few times and I don't think I ever had a bad experience. I'm going Saturday this year. My boyfriend and I will be cosplaying as Asuna and Kirito. ^_^

I've gone for 3 years now. Last year wasn't very good. Panels got pushed back and it was kind of a mess entirely. Its a nice experience when done right, so here's to this year! *Fingers Crossed* Ohh and also arqnohikari is right about its focus. Not much anime going on but its still pretty fun!

Going to SakuraCon instead. Sucks that they're both the same weekend. I would have been willing to pay to get a few sketches from Sushio and the other artists there...

I went last year as my first convention and all I can say was that it was a mess. I'm going to give the convention itself the benefit of the doubt and go again this year.

This was my first anime convention in Houston since Oni-Con in 2009. It was alright. It was also massive in size. The convention center has been expended in the years since I've last been there and they made use of most of it. Oni-Con was considerably smaller. That said, the volunteers were also pretty clueless. I had fun, nevertheless, and will probably be returning.

My main gripe wasn't the con's fault, but the area around it. They are still engaged in construction in the area and it made traveling from one end of the convention center to the other kind of a hassle. It's supposed to be done by this time in 2016, so that shouldn't be a concern next year, but it definitely was this year.

I've been going to AM for 5 years and ever since they moved to the George R. Brown it hasn't been as great, maybe because the the attendees are growing really fast and they can't handle it. 2015 was much better run than 2014, there were less delays(but still some). There were a lot of nice volunteers but there were a select few who were pretty rude, I don't understand how con staff would allow that..

Anyways, out all the conventions I know, I think Anime Matsuri brings the most popular guests like Reika, Kaname, Nightmare, Misako Aoki, FLOW, etc. Sad thing is that with better guests, the convention itself is more poorly run.
I still had lots of fun regardless(also met lots of great fellow cosplayers), but IMO the con hasn't been as amazing as it was before 2013.
