In the beginning I loved Naruto. He was a very relatable underdog character. However, the series as a whole started a downward spiral in Shippuden (when looking at the plot and characterization). In part one we have Kishimoto setting up an amazing back story and world and In part two we have him crapping on that back story and world. In part one we have a pluthora of characters with great development and characterization for the reader to enjoy and choose a favorite from; alas, in part two we have Kishi destroying that characterization to focus on Naruto chasing after Sasuke's butthole.

I could go on for hours but I just wanna mention some main gripes about the series. At the start of Shippuden Naruto is way underdeveloped skill wise (especially when compared to Sasuke) despite training with a Sanin for two years. There are many things such as sage mode, kyubii control, other wind style jutsu, etc. that he should have learned during this training but learns much later or never at all. Even throughout the entire series he only uses generic variations of a shadow clones and rasengan. Boring. Another big problem with shippuden is mutliple deus ex machina and plot holes. Much of the plot in shippuden is just Kishi pulling turds from his a** and putting them on paper. The entire Ninja war arc; nuff said. In general those are the main things wrong with shippuden.

Why is this bad? In short, collectively it made the series more and more generic and less enjoyable as a literary work due to all of the literary flaws. You could only enjoy it as a mindless circle jerk of generic nonsense. The series was set up to be so much greater than it turned out to be.

So tell me what you think about the facts I pointed out about the series. I'd enjoy a constructive discussion

I agree.

I think the Zabuza arc was the best part of the whole series. It showed the harsh reality of the ninja world they're living in, sending kids on an extremely dangerous mission, just because the dude building the bridge didn't have enough money. They had luck that Kakashi was such a badass back then and Naruto got his fox powers.

Speaking of Kakashi, he really should have been killed off during the Pain fight. He was a great character, but letting him live just made him boring, because he couldn't do shit. Characters like him should die, when they're at their best. Just look at Jiraiya, he was awesome till he died.

But I think the series already went downhill at the Chuunin exam arc. It was great, but Orochimaru's influence ruined it. And he also ruined Sasuke's character. How awesome would it have been, if Sasuke developed to someone like Madara WITHOUT the influence of Orochimaru?

Also, edo tensei was probably the biggest mistake of Kishimoto. And after that, the Kaguya bullshit.

People always hate on the ninja war arc... they don't understand that with akatsuki lacking in members after pain's (and konan's) death , a change in the plot was required. It also served as the way to finally give some importance to the forgotten characters, so the idea was good at the beginning; but then... I think Kishimoto made the mistake to once again make the arc focus only in Naruto.

All I kwow is that Kishimoto's biggest mistake was making Madara invincible, all the hype he grew around that character, giving him power-up after power-up... to realize at the end that he had no idea how to defeat him. He was forced then to create plot holes to undo his mistake.

It needs to end for sure though because if they do a mini series about the kids and then another one after they are older it only leaves room for them to kill off Naruto and have Sasuke be the main focus and filler chapters with the kids and that I won't watch.

I liked the minor/supporting cast and would have liked to see the world expanded outside of what it was. I'd be more interested watching "The Daily Life of Shizune" rather than all the fighting, or more content like the Zabuza Arc (and Guren from the filler, cause I liked her a lot).

@DarthSomebody you are right I agree with everything in your post, I never really thought of Orochimaru's presence in the Exams as bad though so how do you think he ruined it? Im not trying to jab I'm just wondering because a good amount of people I talk to didn't like the chunin exams lol. It would have been cool to see Sasuke and Naruto do a good amount of their character development on their own though.

Also Edo tensei was cool when Orochimaru used it in part one and I don't quite remember if it was used at any point between then and the 4thGNW; when I saw how many people were coming back as Edo Tensei I was kind of excited because, like I said before, Kishi did a really good job building the narutoverse and its history but rarely expanded on it, so we could see some famous past ninja. At the same time I knew it was a bad idea plot wise because spamming Edo Tensei just diminishes the impact of death and It actually can ruin the characterization of someone who died on a good note cough* Minato cough* unless they are mindless drones like the first time we saw Edo Tensei.

Another thing that killed me about Kishi is he could have done multiple Naruto spin off series showing the history of certain ninja and villages (kind of like how the manga Freezing does in Freezing Zero and Freezing First Chronicle and they are both fantastic) However he kind of pooped on those chances with Edo tensei and continually destroying the plot of his own work.

Btw for anyone who isn't a manga reader this thread may have spoilers because I am speaking from the manga which is finished.

Personally I was an anime only guy for the most part, and even then I bulk watched it like once a year because of the fillers.

I enjoyed some parts of the original series, the Zabuza arc, parts of the Chuunin exam, but the fillers always made me lose interest. The peak of the series in my opinion was the pain arc. I thought that was masterfully done. I loved how Naruto gained the Sage power and had to actually use his mind, his specialty and his skill to make the most of it. I kind of liked the idea how Naruto could use Kyuubi's chakra to increase his Sage chakra. It was a way for Naruto to use Kyuubi's power without actually having to rely on Kyuubi's power. It was a power that was the complete opposite of Sasuke's. Where Sasuke's power was part hereditary and part evil steroid boost with instant results. The Sage power required great training to master and great skill to use, it was a versatile tool that you had to train to be good at using. Then Hinata sacrificed herself to help Naruto get back into the fight anyway she could. I gotta say, Pain arc was Hunter x Hunter quality writing. If you haven't seen / read Hunter x Hunter go check it out now, as far as shonen battle series go, the writing just blows Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece out of the water.

After that we had the arc where Sasuke ends up fighting against Danzo and Sakura 'tries' to kill him. That arc was pretty good too. I liked it. However, when we got into the last arc it just felt like fanservice flying left and right. You get to see EVERYONE again. Sasuke becomes good. Naruto makes friends with Kyuubi and gets some super saiyan fox powers. It just completely ruined the integrity the Pain arc had built up. It ruined the balance, poetry, and emotion that the series had. It went back to being a typical instant power up, power of friendship, kill the ultimate invincible evil, shonen type plot. It disappointed me.

Well, Orochimaru ruined the end of the exam arc with his war against Konoha. I think that was the moment the series went in the wrong direction. It was too early for a war. It was still good, though.
