Like , right now , practically everything I say makes people feel uncomfortable. I'm not intentionally weird/annoying, that's just how I am.

Example:

Me: *says something*

Friend: ...... *long awkward silence* Well... Okay then...

Why do I have to be cursed with this social-awkwardness?

maybe you have Aspergers and have not been diagnosed. How's your eye contact when talking to people? =)

First of all, that's kind of mean to tell me I have Asbergers just for being weird. Second of all, I'm pretty sure the eye contact thing is a myth. Third of all, if my internet sources are correct, people with Asbergers have trouble expressing their emotions... And I express my emotions pretty well. In fact, maybe a little TOO well... Sometimes my emotions get a little out of control...

So yeah... I'm pretty sure I don't have Asbergers.

Idk probably.
If so, it's more because of what I don't say.
I'm a fairly reserved person, so there are quite a few silent moments that might make others feel a bit awkward.

You mean having people think I'm trolling without me actually trolling?

Oh yeah.

nothing wrong with aspies... intelligent people with poor social skills... the eye contact thing is NOT a myth, it's actually extremely difficult for most aspies to hold eye contact, it's uncomfortable, they actually listen and focus on what ur saying better when not looking you in the eye. Can they do it? of course they can, it's a learned social skill that doesnt come naturally and is acquired.

what intrigued me about ur post was this "Why do I have to be cursed with this social-awkwardness? " - which is a trait all people with aspergers have. I didnt "tell you" you had aspergers, i suggested it, and not for being "weird" i suggested it based on your own observation of yourself " cursed with social-awkwardness"....I could go on and on... but i'd rather not insult you further, since i seem to have done so, that was not my intention.

Yes. I have a habit of taking things to literally, or completely missing sarcasm. I'm also not so good at figuring out when to talk/what to say, which leads to lots of awkward silences.

When I'm tired and/or nervous, I can sometimes make people uncomfortable. Probably because I get more quiet and act more strangely.

I'm fine once I get my caffeine, though.

Hmmm...I'm not sure. Maybe sometimes, but I don't really care. I just laugh it off.

I used to. I had trouble catching on to sarcasm, accidentally ignored people a lot, and sometimes said flagrantly offensive things unintentionally. It was even worse in high school, when I was beginning to learn how to "read" the general vibe of a conversation, but sometimes went too far in the opposite direction trying to say something suitable.

For example: I was sitting in a classroom on the last day of a school year once, and had managed to integrate myself into a conversation with the other students there because they were talking about a song I liked. The topic then moved on to goth/emo kids, the general consensus being that they were pretentious attention-seekers. Wanting to fit in, I said something like "If they're all so obsessed with death, why don't they all just go die?" and was met with incredulous stares from everyone, and went back to reading my book, embarrassed.

My thought process was something like:

These people are annoyed by goths.
If I express disapproval of goths, there will be solidarity.
I will call attention to this apparently hypocritical aspect of goth culture.

My actual opinion on goths was more or less neutral, but in trying to mold my behaviour to the situation, I overshot and ended up saying something overtly hateful without realizing it.

I get by a lot better nowadays. My social grace is significantly improved, and while I'm still often quiet and awkward, I can generally recognize when something would make someone uncomfortable, and avoid saying it.

I don't know. In high school, every time I sat next with some one, the next week they transferred to another class.

I make people feel slightly uncomfortable and awkward all the time, I enjoy to see their reactions to it and all.

What do you like to talk about? I mean really like, to the point where you HAVE to talk about it otherwise a conversation is hardly worth it. Ten years ago, my only answer would have been "the world around me." Today, it's not much different.
