mdmrn,

Thank you for the welcome. As for your recommendation...well...let's just say Beneath the Tangles and I don't exactly see eye-to-eye. I write reviews from the Japanese cultural perspective knowing that not much, if any, Biblical views were inserted into anime/manga by their creators while Beneath the Tangles tries to seek out Biblical values in the entertainment instead of taking it for what it was created to be. I admit I've briefly looked at yours and see some items where we would disagree, but I'll have to dig through it more thoroughly at a later time. Thank you for providing another resource though. :)

Okie dokie. I tend to look at anime and see whether I see Biblical values or not in the anime I watch. I pretty much assume Biblical values, if inserted, are there unintentionally. But Christ is everywhere, is in charge, & can be found occasionally in surprising places.

It's interesting to see other people's thoughts on this matter, and thanks for those who shared their blogs, I'll have a look through them later ^-^

I try to stay away from series that are made to indulge on ecchi elements in order to solely wet the audience's appetite, for example I had to give up on "Kotoura-san" as the main guy in the series purposely creates lewd thoughts to gain a reaction from the female lead who is a social outcast due to her mind reading ability, the whole thing made me feel uncomfortable and the poor girl gets oogled by her grandfather.

It does concern me about how the lewdness of anime becomes normalized by some fans and as a result they end up acting inappropriately towards the opposite sex without realising

Do any of you guys restrict yourselves of animes or mangas that are dark? To clarify, I mean stories where they are intended to be depressing or shocking. I've only read one series that fits this criteria and it's called Berserk. That series is extremely dark, revolting, and heart-breaking, yet the themes they discussed are on a theologian level of complexity. It is a really amazing manga to read, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart.

As well, anyone encountered any story where the church in general is not viewed in a negative light. Ever since I've watched Fullmetal Alchemist, I get the distinct feeling the church is an enemy in a lot of anime stories. I also remember one old 90s anime that I've seen called Ninja Resurrection. Absolutely do not watch it, the anime is horrible! Besides being a bad 90s anime, it also has probably the most blasphemous portrayal of Jesus I've ever seen. All I could think is, "Who wrote this crap?"

I think whether we realize it or not, our faith does create a line in the sand for each of us of things we will chose not to watch. For each of us, I think that line is going to be a little different.
