There are times where you just know that it is time to take a deep breath and take a step back from whatever it is you are focusing on.

For me that moment would be one of incredible ignorance where I sunk a good bit of time and made a ridiculously obvious mistake.

An example that I just produced would be cross-rigging points from a single object onto bones from the opposite leg. When put into motion I couldn't help but go "wot?" and laugh at the result.

After doing something like that I usually end up playing a game that doesn't require much thought, watching videos, or lifting weights.

What is that trigger for you and what do you do to unwind and refresh? Oh, and feel free to also give examples if you managed to do something even slightly amusing.

Usually it's when I'm playing games and I've gotten too frustrated over something I can't figure out how to get right. I'm stubborn though, so I refuse to step back and generally by then a controller is broken from me twisting it. And then of course I wonder how I go through so many controllers.

I'm to tenacious to give up, so I double down then make bigger mistakes in the process. Then I stop from exhaustion.

I take a break whenever it feels like I'm doing something without knowing why. If I've found my activity has gotten ahead of my thought process, I need to stop for a moment and make sure everything is going according to plan. I hate pointless activity.

I break when my mind starts wandering like there's no tomorrow, then I just stop and let my thoughts wander...

After I finally start working on something I usually can go for a long time. Though if it's really difficult and a good amount of time has passed, then I will take a break when I get to a suitable point. So if I had to say, I take breaks when I'm getting worn down and find a good place to stop for the time being.
