Studio Ghibli and the lack of Sequels and Spinoffs.

Does any wish studio ghibli would expand on certain stories or worlds? I wish they did. While I do feel open endedness is a mainstay of Studio Ghibli films, there are some films I wish I could see more of, like Castle in the Sky. How do you feel about Studio Ghibli and it lack of sequels?

I think it's good that they don't have sequels or spinoffs. The films are amazing and I feel like there's honestly no need for such things, leave it as it is, in all it's glory.

All of the flims seem far to contained in their own little story, I their was a sequel, I think it would mess up the little bubble world that each story creates. That being said, I DO think that it would be wonderful to have another story about Kiki, maybe her Mom's first ride.

You can't have a sequel to Grave of the Fireflies.

But how about "My Neighbor Totoro"?

I've always wished they would go back and remake Nausicaa following the longer story in the manga. Other than that, I think all of their stories are complete the way they are.

Pretty much this. Most of their stories don't really leave any room for a convincing sequel. And frankly, that doesn't bother me one bit - I loathe the American Entertainment-Media complex and it's tendency to just keep feeding us more of the same and endless streams of franchises, sequels, remakes, re-imaginings, and reboots. (Though to be fair, a huge part of why they do it is because the teeming masses lap it up like mother's milk.)

I'd want a whole 26 episode series dedicated to it. It would be epic...

There actually is a sequel to the Howl,s Moving Castle novel that the movie was based on. But they also went a completely different direction than the book, so not sure how it would work.

I'm glad that they avoided the Disney sequel affect. Disney sequels tend to really suck as a rule unless they have more material (I.e., the Aladdin sequels, possibly Lion King 1/2...it's Rosencranz and Gildenstern are dead).

the movies stand on their own. that beeing said, i do wish for more story, maybe a spinoff? was wolf children studio ghilbi? would love to see more of the daughter. but over all, sequals are very hard to pull off and studio ghilbi make great stand alone stuff.

I honestly feel that the stories that they produce would probably suffer if they did sequels. Their stories are more geared to movies without sequels.

I just feel sad I can't see more of the world. I'm mainly talking about spin offs versus sequels, as it I'm more interested in the world rather than the characters themselves.

I'm very confident they could make good sequels if they're not focusing on milking the cow.

There's no need for sequels or spin-offs, it's better to leave it untouched.
If you're interested in the World then why not simply re-watch the films?

Because I want to see more. In my opinion it would be great if they did expand on the worlds.
