Had this discussion in class and wanted to hear more opinions.

Some people said if you go to a school with one gender, you will become gay. I don't believe that.

What are your thoughts?

Went to one.

They thought I was gay.

At one point I had two girls fighting over me.

It was stupid.

I went to them from age 9 til 18. They are unusually common in Ireland compared to other countries, probably due to the church, mine still had nuns.

I personally think they're better. There is less distractions so you can focus on your work.

Also there is less stereotyping, girls felt comfortable taking 'male' subjects like technology and physics as you knew you wouldn't end up being the only girl in the class. I assume the same for the male schools.

There wasn't many lesbians in our school, I think maybe one in our entire year of 200, and even then that's just a maybe. You could meet with boys after school. Although, if you were gay, you'd probably have an easier time finding someone and not have to worry about being hit on by the opposite sex. But then, a lot of single sex schools have a religious element to them, though this isn't as big a deal as it was before. I think the only difference is that you'd discover you were gay sooner, not have it actually turn you gay.

Also I've heard from girls who go to mixed schools that boys often dominate class discussions/group work, which sounds very annoying. Plus I know that girls are perfectly well able to work together and form strong friendships, which men sometimes think can't happen 'because women hate each other'.

you can't become gay from going to one gendered school, watching gay movies, being near gay people, eating chickens, being raised by single mothers etc etc.

These are myths perpetuated by brainless people of society with double digit IQ most likely.

Any more questions?

Nah, I don't think so. My sister's got a guy friend, they were together during primary school. During middle school and high school, he transferred to an all boy's private school, and he still shows romantic and platonic feelings for her. He's a very artsy guy, and quite a talented painter and drawer, though at best he's meterosexual.

Is this the nature vs nurture argument?

because I shall avoid that, too long.

I don't think that going to a boy's only or girl's only school will turn you magically gay.

The only one I've heard of turning gay was missionaries and church camps, and that's just rumors.

Like all stuff on life, Gender is a matter of propaganda, but single gender schools are better for the education of the child since it eliminates distraction

I had Freshman year of HS in the Middle East. They split the school in half by gender.
It SUCKED. Every kid there was a complete moron, none were gay though. In fact, they were pretty homophobic. I just kept to myself and watched anime, as usual.

I was in an all-girls school from age 5-17. Loved it. I'm straight btw.
