Aquarion Evol had a pretty conclusive ending. All of the mysteries left over from the first one were uncovered. Where else do they have to go with this franchise?

Also Aquarion Evol, while not bad, wasn't great.

So we're jumping another 12,000 years into the future, I guess?

Don't get me wrong, I liked EVOL, but if Kawamori is going to make more stuff, I'd prefer more AKB0048, frankly.

I just posted something about this on the announcement news article comment section. It's been a while since I have seen this series, so I may have just been talking out of my ass, however I want to know what other people think who probably won't read what I said.

I personally thought that the original Aquarion was more like Gundam Wing or Gundam 00 where it was focused on a wide variety of interacting relationships and covered a very broad variety of issues. Also, while there was romance, it was more of a romance that was a side dish to the main course of the whole survival plot. The drama had more to do with human relationships and life in general than who liked who.

On the otherhand Aquarion Evol to me felt more like it focused narrowly on the teenage romcom type of romance that you see in a crap load of animes today. The vast majority of the episodes had to do with one teenager liking another teenager or misunderstanding the relationship between two other teenagers. While Aquarion covered themes of romance, friendship, survival, tradition, and philosophy, Evol seemed to be 90% infatuation. Kagura with Mikono, Amata and Mikono with each other, Jessica with Amata, Andy and MIX, Amata's Mother and Father.

So am I just talking out of my ass and being biased here? Or was Aquarion Evol primarily about fidgety teenage infatuation?

As a final note. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy romance. However, when it's not in the context of something bigger it just feels really cheap to me. A good example of a good romance would be Clannad. The series focused on Tomoya and Nagisa's relationship in the context of family, friends, and moral support rather than just two teenagers who want to make out because they feel infatuated with each other.

Aside from the fact that Aquarion Evol contradicted many of the plot lines of Genesis and made them non-existant. I would say Evol is utter shit. The director himself said he made the sequel to be standalone and not having anything to do directly with the first season.

I for one would actually want to see an actual sequel to the first one and not some cop out shit like Evol.
