I agree on HunterxHunter being a the best of it's kind and also agree that the Chimera Ant arc went for too long.

Hunter X Hunter deserves it. The series was really great. The only arc i did not like was the greed island arc. But still, the series as a whole is pretty impressive.

What would you say is then?

Please don't say One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, or Dragon Ball Z. All of those series are extremely formulaic.

No, Hunter X Hunter is definitely better than those 4. I would say Fairy Tail is. It has a female MC, and actually balances the male and female cast really well. No other battle shounen I've seen does that. It also has a different arc for each character(s) to give them depth and focus on their development. Most of the villains are actually threatening and even they get great development. Nakama power actually makes sense since it comes from spells and is literally an actual power up instead of just being a random thing. It also incorporates shoujo elements (i.e. putting emphasis on emotion and romance).
tl;dr: It's original with great and unique multi-dimensional characters while still maintaining the basic core and heart of the genre.

As for Hunter x Hunter itself, it could've took a few lessons from Fairy Tail honestly. I wanted to like it but I just noticed too many problems especially with all the hype it gets. For one there is the female cast thing again, granted as few and irrelevant as they are at least they are actually useful (unlike most of Naruto's and DBZ's female cast). But more importantly most of the plot twists come out of nowhere. Also the characters are really stupid, mainly the villains. I just couldn't take any of them seriously (with the exception of Meruem). And at the end of the day, Gon and Killua are the only ones that matter. Everyone else gets forgotten about. And Killua's development was handled pretty sloppily honestly. His biggest character flaw was
Like, okay...? There was also the random training arc in the middle of the Chimera Ant arc which was clearly just put in to drag it along. And I just can't consider that good writing, let alone "best". It was lazy more than anything. Gon's and Meruem's development were handled well though. Basically it's okay just not best.

I don't even like Fairy Tail, but I think people here should know better than to smugly laugh at someone because of their preferences in entertainment.

There are parts I love of Fairy Tail, I love Lucy, I love Jellal, I love Laxus. They are great characters. A lot of Fairy Tail though is just extremely loud and silly. Like it takes the loud and silly parts of One Piece, and amplifies all that is wrong with them a thousand fold. I have the same problem with Naruto though, it has some very very good parts, and then it has some parts that make me question whether I actually ever liked the series at all in the first place.

To that end, Hunter x Hunter does something very unorthodox. It runs purely on suspense and mindgames. The comedy is light, the nakama power is almost nonexistent, and there is no romance at all. It's all suspense and novel depictions of one character getting the upper hand over another character. I am actually pretty sure that the lack of any attractive female protagonists in it is precisely so that no one will expect romance from it.

It's now unfortunately the 5th highest rated anime...1st is the (IMO overrated) One Punch Man, 2nd FMAB, 3rd Death Note (IMO also overrated), Cowboy Bebop (IMO it deserves to be higher than the rest of the top 5) and 5th HxH.

You know i find it funny everyone say's One Piece first it's like they're basing this off of 4kids or popular opinion.

For one you tell me another series that has years worth of foreshadowing that connects to events years later.
Or an author that gets 3 hours of sleep for the average while at 800+ chapters.

Opinion or fact regardless both Togashi and Oda's series deserve the praise

I enjoy Fairy Tail but i'm in agreement the two don't deserve to be in the same sentence vs Bleach and Naruto yeah sure but H x H and One Piece absolutely not. If you make your opinion clear that that's your preference okay but saying H x H has flaws while praising FT is deserving to not be taking seriously.

Sure FT doesn't do anything wrong it has a set path and knows where it's going which is note worthy for a battle shounen however it doesn't set the bar high trying to do anything different and impress outside of sticking to the usual rinse and repeat formula for shounen.

"Best written" is a pretty bad angle. Its anime for fark sakes, lol.

Or manga, which is not anime, but a basis of a lot of anime. But, still, it isn't wholly written. None of these are wholly written.

There really is not a best. Most of these are all derivative. Hell, even Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger has derivatives from older anime movies from Japan.

So, from that angle, you'd have to go with somthing like Saint Seiyan for this genre. Although I am not sure I could handle hearing, "PEGASUS RTRJT$@$J##J@#@##!!!!!" 50 million more times.

This genre is about teen males. Teen males are pretty 2D. As complex as a tic tac. Not much to "write" about. The genre is repetitive, which is fine, but the arguments being made are really pointless.
