i do already things for the community. it is fun. As a union steward, it is something we do. Fraternity's (not just the college kind but all kinds) do things to help out the community. Helping out battered/ abused people to building homes. handing out school supplies, to helping out at a local soup kitchen. Even just playing music for people on the street without regards to money.

There are so many churches where I live. I would probably convert most of them into homeless shelters or animal shelters, or maybe shelters for victims of abuse.

Go unions need more of them. Before you jump on the anti band wagon, the highest paid job in the town I'm in you can get without a college degree is a union job and you make nearly as much as a doctor. Power to the people, unions your democracy in the work place.

Yup I help out when and where I can.

I already do as well.

I voluntarily run the local community garden which has expanded the use of its space to include 20+ plots this year. In the past I have helped to institute methods of donating our produce to the local food pantry and old folks home in the town (with about 2000 residents in the town.. it's small nothing about this is the size of say, NYC). We also have tried to incorporate a yearly "field trip" to the garden for the younger students to learn something gardening related and to try and spark an interest. i've also encouraged our garden to be represented at two of the three local townwide events with some form of garden educational booth. We've also reached out to the kids in the past by offering face painting, digging for worms, and painting flower pots, the face painting being also a fund raising event. We also have, under my tenure begun to sponsor a yearly flower sale to raise funds using plants I personally start in my apartment. (I am in the midst of this process for this year now). The flowers left over from this sale have gone to the local parks department, whom we are technically under, to help beautify the public spaces, and I personally plant flowers in the window boxes at the local police department as part of this. One year, we also participated in the planting of the planters along our main street in partnership with our local businesses.

I am also serving my third year as part of the local business group on their elected board. This group has done some community outreach as well as is the de facto "tourism department" for the town in lieu of an actual department for such. We are the ones that plan those town events, (of which I belong on the committee for one, and arguably the more "community oriented" of the two). This group is also the group which started the local farmers' market which is now struggling, and may not happen this year, as well. The split off Farmers' market group I also belong to, and may in the future (next year) take a more active role in in order to see its continuation.

The group that is being requested (actually one of many) is one of two local environmental groups that I also am a part of,though I have not contributed much because I am involved in so much else. If I can convince them that the farmers' market is viable and a good venue for their own promotion and succeeding in some of their goals, then I think I can contribute and get the ball rolling again where it has once stalled.

That's what I'm currently involved in with my "community service resume". In the past I have also volunteered for the cleanup of our local parks, simple on location work for the town events, and one year played santa claus for the local kids to visit at the local bank.
