I happen to have a lot of time on my hands recently and am looking to get into a really long anime, that also happens to be popular. I'd really like to get in with a trending anime and have lots of people to talk about it with. Typically I prefer to watch shorter anime that can be watched in less than a month, but it's been a long time since I did a long one, I think Yugioh 5D's mighta been my last one. That series ended years ago (love that they are bringing the subs here on CR). ^-^

The truth is, I'm really out of the loop on what shows might fit this outside of Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach. I'm not interested in picking up either of these three, but am open to other suggestions.

So basically the criteria I'd like to meet is as follows:

-Popular
-Large fandom on social media
-75+ episodes (or guaranteed to be longer than that)
-Genre doesn't really matter
-Not super violent with loads of blood and gore
-Every other episode isn't a filler
-Prefer an ongoing anime, but will be cool with something that's finished as well as long as it meets other criteria

For reference, some other anime I am watching on here at the moment include Sailor Moon Crystal, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, and Yona of the Dawn. Other stuff I've watched in the past 3 years or so on here or somewhere else include Mushi-Shi (original and Second Passage), Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, Fractale, Casshern Sins, and Outbreak Company.

Thanks so much for your help and can't wait for your suggestions.

May I recommend HunterxHunter? It's reasonably popular.

Edit: How can I forget GINTAMA?!

HxH is without a doubt the best long series.

It has better animation than most 12 episode series.

HxH is goddamn amazing.

I'll haveta give HxH and Gintama a watch next week. One of these will be the winner and I'll have something I can finally talk about with everyone.

Thanks so much for your recommendations. :D

Fairy Tail has quite a few episodes and is still going (I think?). I haven't actually watched it but it was the first thing that came to mind after the big three.

If you like mech series Gundam SEED/SEED Destiny is really good. It's two seasons with 75+ episodes combined. I don't know if it fits your popular standard though.

If you want some older shows try Dragon Ball and all its variations. Or Inu Yasha. Or Rorouni Kenshin. They were popular but I'm not sure how solid their fanbase is now.

I've seen most of Dragon Ball, Ruroni Kenshin, and Inu Yasha when it ran back in the day on Cartoon Network. I enjoyed all 3. \o/

Watch both man.

Gintama and HxH are both in my favorite anime list.

Gintama is something that will legitimately teach you some life lessons and really tug at your heart strings. Despite its comical appereance at first, the serious arcs are so well written its mind blowing.

And HxH is something every shounen and action anime fan should watch. One of the best Shounens after Yu Yu Hakusho; The later arcs are very dark and mature in its themes and setting. It's also one of those shows (up until the chimera ant arc) That make you wish you were going on an adventure yourself. The Chimera ant arc on the other hand is one of the greatest anime arcs ever made. Its dark, its visceral and its brutal.

I'll probably watch Gintama after finishing HxH, or actually get my significant other to watch it with me in the evenings.
Currently on episode 21/148 on the HxH though. :D
