i actually cant think of any...maybe i just havent seen enough anime to think of some really typical names?

True...I think I can count at least three instances where that name has occured, and I once had a friend with that name, too....would you say that Haruka is common too or is that just me?

That one is up there too, Pokemon, Idolmaster, Strike Witches, Love Hina just a few that came to mind right away.

Akane, Haruka, Takashi / Takeshi, Yuki / Yuuki, Rin, Makoto, Kana
Sakura, i think we can unanimously agree, is wayyyy overused for girls.

Personally I have in my time seen Yuki or Yuuki used quite a lot for both sexes, whether as a surname or given name.
Makoto, Haruka, and Rin are three other unisex names that I see with characters of both genders.
Takashi / Takeshi is a guy exclusive name, but also quite common.
Akane shows up a fair amount as well
