I'm Scottish and living in the deep south. My accent lets me get away with murder (figuratively speaking!). People often ask me just to speak so they can hear my voice which can be awkward when you're trying to give them an enema...

Yes, because they know you're American and can get em' a green card. Probably won't work in developed countries though, like Japan, they don't like us. But them Vietnamese and Filipina's will jump all over you.

I read up on a study that says accents are appealing 'cuz it clues us in that they're exotic and can add to our gene pool.

I remember watching What I like About You when and I would always wished that Ben would go away because his accents was so annoying. Now I don't mind it, I think it's all perception.

It's the foreign aspect, it's not something we generally hear on a daily basis so we feel it's exotic and unique.

Of course physical attraction has a lot to do with it as well.

The American accent was voted second place just behind the British accent in a recent global pole - and if you travel, you will find the American accent is extremely popular globally.

My personal favorites are the British, German, Russian and American accents (and the British and American accents have more than one accent so...more fun!)

Least favorites are easily any Asian accent and the stereotypical "Indian" accent that is always used in TV shows etc.. (Not all Indian accents are like that one though - the rest are fine, just not that "stereotypical one". I am also not a fan of the French accent - I find it highly annoying. No ghetto accent, Chav-Brit accent or hillbilly accent either. Gross.

And I really dislike the Australian accent - again, I find it annoying.

Contrary to your statement, Americans are still really popular in Japan, and still make up for quite a bit of foreign affairs/marriages/etc.

Of course, Viets and Filipinos go crazy for Americans and then Westerners in general...especially if you are white and especially if you look like Brad Pitt. Or you're in the army.

But then again, so many girls globally love a man in uniform...

I find it funny how accents sound to different people. For example here in America if you have a male Texan accent people will call you a hick, hillbilly, redneck and so on, but when it's a woman it's very sexy which I would agree to.

I enjoy foreign female accents. When the woman is also physically attractive, wears attractive clothes and smells nice, it adds to their appeal, as well as giving them a mystique. Now do I have a favorite accent? Its very hard to decide. I like the European accents the most, but I think Latin, Aussie, and Japanese can sound very pleasant too.

After being a longtime fan of Bjork, and just recently discovering Emiliana Torrini, I have to say I adore Icelandic accents.

Honestly I like most every accent that doesn't sound rough or harsh.
