So, mostly in a harem there is a shy / silent / dumb / plain girl, you know the one that normally dosn't even get close to a releationship with the main character.

Does anyone know an anime where the main character does pick this girl, instead of the tsundere or childhood friend etc? (Dosn't have to be harem)

Say I love you.

is the first one that came to mind. I don't personally like this anime though, but a lot of people seem to like it...

1) Not a harem
2) I'm pretty sure it's shojo - the main character is the shy/plain girl.

op said it doesn't have to be a harem... just as long as the main character chooses the shy girl over other characters...

Ah yes, I missed that.

But see, in this show I see the girl as the main character, and yes she's plain and passive so she does get picked rather than being very proactive in doing the picking, but still a slightly different scenario than what I thought the OP was asking. Though it still might be appealing--so it was thoughtless of me to quibble. Along similar lines, there's Kimi ni Todoke.

Also possibly not really counting, since in Nisekoi Raku doesn't really pick/end up with anyone in his harem, but he does retain an obvious crush on the shy (but not plain) girl.

Thanks for the fast replies! I have already seen Nisekoi and Say I love you (Probably should have included the ones I have already seen in the original post.. :D)

Anyway, from what I read, Kimi ni Todoke seems to be quite spot on. Thanks!

OT: I have probably watched shojo more than any other genre, so I don't really mind ha!

Wolf girl and black prince.

the girl is described as plain in the anime. and she doesn't do well on tests...

Kimi ni Todoke is pretty much exactly like Say I Love you, except the main girl, Sawako, desperately wants to make friends despite her awkwardness, as opposed to in Say I Love You, where Mei desperately wants to avoid making friends.

I personally like Kimi ni Todoke more, because Sawako is just freaking adorable. Dammit I have to go rewatch it now.

You could also try Love, Chunibyo and other Delusions. It's kind of in the same vein as the other two. The main female lead isn't the pretty popular girl, she's the weird outcast. The pretty popular girl, who the main male character initially is attracted doesn't become the love interest, and instead becomes a side character.

For Harems:

Moishiroiro Symphony: she's certainly shy (in an introverted, motherly sort of way), though not dumb or plain.
Little Busters: The super shy girl IS the childhood friend, and you have to wait until the second season, but this otherwise seems to fit.

Other romances:
Kotoura-San (female lead is a shy outcast)
One Week Friends (female lead is shy-but-cute and cuts herself off from her classmates)
Fruits Basket (okay, the anime is played as a reverse harem, but the female lead falls in the "shy-but-cute" camp, and isn't exactly the strongest student)
Itazaru na Kiss (female lead is pretty dumb, and clearly doesn't stand out much to her classmates, at least at the beginning)

You could also try omnibus or anime where multiple romances are intertwined:
Amagami SS: One of the romance partners is clearly what you are looking for (Sae Nakata)
Hatsukoi LImited: Intertwined romances, and one of the girls is exactly what you are looking for.

Bridge to the Starry Sky seems to be the kind of show you're looking for. Tokyo Ravens kinda fits also I think. If Her Flag Breaks has more than one girl who fits the mold (and his choice is among them) so it may be too.
