Oh,i used to love this series a lot back then when i was young,sweet,innocent............Looking back at it now,i don't feel that way anymore because better animes keep appearing, but i still like this show.

The animation for this may not be top notch, but what can you expect from such old anime?I watch this show because i felt the cooking methods in this are exaggerated but in a hilarious way.

When i watched this on AXN,it's in japanese with english subs. But when i downloaded it,it's cantonese in the first half, and mandarin in the second half.I don't mind because i AM a chinese after all,but it sounds weird, especially the mandarin version.

The story is about a genius cook named Mao.He's just a kid,but he is much better than all the old dudes around him.A bright kid,he is innovative enough to create new recipes and methods when situation calls for it.And along that,he gained friends and enemies, besides possible love interest....................

It is interesting to see how all these great chefs battle against each other. It is rather exciting.I dont know whether the recipes are for real, but i did tried to cook Golden Fried Rice back then, and the result is well........Guess i cannot be compared to cooking master boy .Along the journey to search for legendary cooking utensils, the trio sometimes find themselves in a sticky situation, battles after battles and some hilarious ones.It is fun watching, and you know you just got to laugh at those people's reaction who ate the food.It is like i said exaggerated, but funny.Back then, I really believe that if you eat delicious food, you can hear beautiful ladies playing music, dragons flying here and there, blah blah blah.........But i never feel that way.Guess the chefs in our world need to practice more.

I am sure some feel the ending is rather incomplete, and yeah i feel that way too.Although it is an incomplete but not confusing ending,i somehow wish they show more on the dark society and whether they really get all the legendary utensils

I am sure most of you who watched this will notice that Mei Lin's breast size increased by two fold during second half of the series.Err,i dont know whether they did this intentionally for fanservice or the animators slacked off when drawing. The characters design seem a bit off from what they used to look back in season 1.However,being an ameteur anime watcher at that time,i dont mind. But now i do.

Don't judge the series because of the animation. The animation may look shitty, but the battles between the chefs will are very exciting, and you may find yourself rooting for them.

I watched this one a while ago and I thought it was good at first; with a good story progression, character development you'd wish were on some other anime character, even the funny exaggerated cooking.

But then it went to the Legendary Cooking Utensils, the Evil Cooking Organization (who I guess ran out of cooks to fight with after what they do) and the cooking-to-take-over-the-world plot. I don't know if it was good or bad, all I know is I got confused.

Aside from the weird late series plot, the art style is good even if it was old, because a lot of the older ones tend to not repeat scenes unless its a launching sequence for a giant robot anime.

But I look back at the plot and I just go, "What the hell?"

it was one of the anime that i really liked! Sadly I couldn't find the Japanese dub anywhere. My favourite part of this series would definitely be watching people eat Mao's food. So exaggerating - "zzak!" struck by lightning, dragons "pow" ...etc LOL.
Seriously, for an old anime I guess it has rather good art style - at least it's better than Flame of Recca (one of my fave childhood anime too) whose characters keep getting uglier and uglier. Well, in any case I didn't notice Mei Lin's changed boob size at all haha - let's just say I'm looking at the food man.

I really like this anime series. It is still one of my all time favorite shows. The storyline is so interesting, and it's fun too. The first time I watched this was when I was in Korea. I couldn't believe that I would find it again on crunchyroll. Readers of this comment, watch two or three episodes and judge for yourself if you like this anime. My opinion, it has one of the best storylines. If you like anime with competition as the theme, this is the one to watch. The artistry maybe outdated, but it becomes less noticeable as the story begins.

i liked this anime, it was cute. I watched it in Cantonese, i wished there was more to it but yeah it ending. But i also thought it was sort of cheesy, like when they open each dish light shone out and every thing. But it was an interesting plot and ending..i guess....lol

when i first watched this i found it funny but interesting so i continued watching it..
it's like yakitate japan.. anyone who eats their food shows exaggerated reactions..
i find it funny and yah, exaggerated.. but you gotta admit, it is entertaining..

i agree that the ending, i think, is incomplete.. it didn't answer all the questions and problems the story portrayed..

just like in flame of recca wherein they didn't show whether they have acquired the... what do you call that? those weapons? i forgot and they didn't find the answer to recca's mom's curse..

when I saw my brother watching this show, I teased him, 'coz I thought that it's stupid...I mean, an anime about cooking...what the hell! But then, anime is about anything. When I started to watch it myself, I got hooked!
I've learned to never underestimate any show!
It's just sad that I really can't remember how the story goes, even though I watched it all the way through, I've watched a lot of anime of which story I can't remember...
but I can confidently say that this is a good anime, because it was my favorite back then.
