lol.. you're still young. I liked snow till I was in my late 20's. Somehow around then, the cold just really settled into my bones more, and though I make money shovelling still, this past year (now 33) shovelling takes its physical toll on me.. not a lot, but juuuuuuuuuuuust enough to let you know that you're just beginning to get old...

I'm never a big fan of snow, but this year has been brutal. Our public transit system has been barely functional for the past month due to it.

I've never had bad experiences with snow; then again that was before I was driving.

It's not so bad, in my opinion. Snow is one of the few forms of transient beauty I truly admire, and I only have to deal with it on occasion unlike a lot of the people who get upset that it snows.

First make sure your tires have good tread. They should be checked every couple months use a penny if Abe's face isn't covered you replace. If you find yourself slipping it is time to replace as well.

Second toss a couple fifty pound bags of non clumping old fashioned cat little in your trunk over the wheel wells. If you get stuck cut open one of the bags and use it to help get traction. It degrades in natures and washes away when the snow melts since it is made from fullers earth. Do not use clumping little it is not pure fullers earth it has other stuff added to make it clump and does not degrade.

Go slow watch for ice and if you loose traction turn into the spin not against it, this is counter intuitive and takes practice helps to find an empty parking lot and practice it in the snow (fun and somewhat safe). Don't slam on the brakes pump them to slow. Also keep space between you and the person in front of you most accidents happen because people are to close to each other on the rode.

Note to those with four wheel drive. Just because you have four wheel drive does not mean you will not lose traction. It is your tires not how the power is distributed to the wheels that determine if you hold traction. Once your tires break free you are just like a two wheel diver car the only benefit you have is you have a chance to hopefully get traction with the rear wheel or front which may still have traction. So remember traction doesn't equal drive train.

Half the vehicles in the ditch last year had four wheel drive. Two biggest things I can't stress enough don't ride your brakes(more likely to slam them on), I just let up on the gas and let the car slow naturally if need be pump the brakes. And watch your spacing if you can do those two things driving in the snow is actually a lot of fun. If you learn to drive like this normally you find it becomes second nature. I hardly ever touch the brake when driving on the freeway I just use the gas to control my speed. If I need to hit the breaks it is because someone stopped traffic or someone doesn't understand spacing and is riding someone bumper.

So enjoy your snow if you have it if not enjoy the other weather.

The cat litter trick actually works well if you have front wheel drive car gives the rare a little more traction. oh if the cat litter trick doesn't work if you get stuck carry a air pump let out the air from the tire that is stuck until it is almost flat this will also increase your traction old army trick you need to pump up the tire after though. Surface area equal traction.

Snowboarding!

My brother and I go to a ski club every 4 months or so, the wind feels amazing as you board down the mountain.

Except this one time I was going so fast as I was racing down the mountain I almost lost my head to pole (0.0)

It scared me half to death

But hey, no risk no reward right?

One time the cat litter trick failed me so I threw the cat under there instead. Got great traction but what a mess.

ugh I hate it, every year there's several accidents a week since most people drive like idiots around me how was the lady able to hop the curb, take down a tree and hit 2 cars in the oncoming lane? the road was closed for 5 hours

I'm just upset that I didn't see anyone fall over in it.

If snow didn't fall on the roads, driveways, and sidewalks. That would be awesome. I don't mind snow, but having to clean up after it gets old after a while. But living in Wisconsin, for the last 20 years, I'm just used to it, and used to dealing with the crap that it throws at you.

I do have to say though, that the first snow fall is pretty cool. One day, the grass is green, the leaves on the tress, have fallen off. The next day, everything is covered in white.
