A few simple rules I've learned...

1. Learn to duck, bob, jump and weave at all the misfortunes, pitfalls, tricks and traps life throws at you. If you see life as a tough videogame you can survive it before the inevitable Game Over occurs.

2. Don't be afraid to take longshot risks that are likely to fail. The phrase "I should've..." weighs heavier on the soul than failure ever could hope to.

3. If you're offered a change to your life that seems too good; new career/job, marriage, new gf, an inexpensive house...don't overthink it. Go with your gut and hope for the best, but always expect and prepare for the worst just in case.

4. When you think you're at the lowest point of your life and feel like giving up, don't worry. It'll get better...get worse...get better....get worse. Whether you think of life as a tide in an ocean, a heartbeat/pulse of life or even a breeze drifting through a valley they all are living, breathing things as well and you should be too.Ride it out and you'll have just as many happy moments you'll remember as sad moments you wish to forget.

The One Most Important Lesson I've learned in life:

1. You learn more about life in 1 year of being on your own than in 4 years of college.

2. You must DO things on your own to learn the most about life

3. You have to do some serious self reflection to find your destiny.

4. The days of getting a job, working said job until retirement, are largely over in this volatile economy.

I realize that this is four lessons, not one. I didn't learn how to count in college.

1.) You are never as good at your job as you think you are. You can, and should, always strive to do better.

2.) Work harder than all your peers.

3.) Never blindly follow anything, whether religion, education, business, relations, etc. Take the time to study things out, that way, whether the choice is correct in the end or not, you can take pride in the fact that you made the decision to the best of your ability.

4.) There is no pit too deep to climb out, and at times we must ask for help get out.

5.) If you make a mistake, admit it, correct it if possible, and learn from it, but never dwell on it.

6.) Never let your own pride rid you of the support of others.

Be able to act quick when things suddenly don't go the way you plan.

Life's too short to not to be yourself.

And kill mean people with kindness or sarcasm

Probably have some more, but I feeling like I'm living pretty well at my age. All I need now is a way to make a healthy income lol Which I guess is what a college education is for.

Be grateful for everything.

Even if life seems like it sucks, the experiences you have help to inform your future decisions. Those good decisions wouldn't have been made without the bad experience that informed it (i.e., you're gonna screw up before you get it right). Be grateful for all the experiences you have, for the choices you made, who you are, and what you do.

Not sure if that makes sense, but eh.

I don't really learn lessons. When I was younger, I would know if I was making a mistake or doing something wrong, and that I was lucky to be able to get away with it. When I failed or found myself in a rough situation, it was only a matter of time. People can use fancier words to get a point across, but life lessons are usually common sense.

Anyway, here's a life lesson quote by Hijikata Toshiro - "If you run into a wall and pretend it doesn't exist, you'll never make progress, the wall will never change, so you're the one who has to change."
