I recently finished The File of Young Kindaichi Returns and due to reasons cannot complete Case Closed and was wondering if anyone knew a good anime like them? Something with a murder and then one character comes and solves it.

I also tried Un-Go and liked it, but I'd prefer something with less of a long running plot.

I'd also prefer if it was on crunchyroll, but if not as long as it works on iOS I'll be fine.

I would recommend Detective School Q, Magic Kaito 1412, or Hello Harinezumi: Satsui no Ryoubun (aka Domain of Murder). I hope these recommendations help.

Is Magic Kaito 1412 connected to Case Closed/Detective Conan at all?

It's a spinoff of sorts; they have history. Conan has appeared in a couple episodes of Kaito as well.

Though not a crime detective series, "Ghost Hunt" has a similar feel. The basic plot is that something supernatural occurs and a group of experts come to investigate the cause - some are spiritualists/exorcists while others appear more sceptical. The team then piece together clues to see whether something supernatural is occurring (and fix it) or if it is all some elaborate hoax.

The series is 25 episodes long, split into 8 cases. Unfortunately it is not available at Crunchyroll and I don't know if you can get it on iOS.

None of these are exactly what you want, but if you like mysteries you might enjoy them:

Gosick might be the closest I know of to what you are looking for: it's about two kids (one fairly normal, the other brilliant) helping the police to solve a series of murders. Supposedly it gets pretty dark towards the end, so be warned.

Hyouka: the cases aren't murders, but it's about a series of mysteries solved by a group of high schoolers (one in particular), and is generally pretty clever.

Persona 4: The Animation is about one mystery involving a series of murders, that takes the full season to solve. (I haven't seen Persona 4: The Golden Animation yet so I can't speak to it, though they are different series.)

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia has some mysteries (it's about a group of kids uncovering the truth behind a series of ghost stories), some of which are pretty dark.

I don't know if it was released up there or on iOS but Young Kindaichi is actually a sequel series. The first one is over 100 episodes long I believe.

Ryoko's Case File and Glass Maiden both have pretty good mystery elements to them too. More X-Files than Case Closed style though.
