I know that SAO (as an anime) is both loved and hated by the community, but I just thought that I'd bring this question up after having watched through both seasons again:

Do you think that SAO Progressive (since it's a reboot of the Aincrad story-arc) should be adapted into anime?

Arguably, although the SAO story isn't really even finished yet (according to my knowledge anyway), I believe that the first story arc had the best concept, story, and characters that the other story arcs (which came after) just couldn't match. Wouldn't it be great if we saw a reboot of the Aincrad story?

Anyway, this was kind of a spur of the moment thought. I'm aware that SAO Progressive might not ever be adapted into anime (especially since parts of it were used in the SAO anime already, I think) and the SAO anime itself hasn't even reached Alicazation.

If an anime producer thinks it would be profitable, which it probably would be, then it'll get an adaptation eventually.

Do I think it should be made into an anime? Hell yes!

Will it happen? I think it will.

SAO is extremely popular, so any spin-offs, reboots, etc. will be instant money makers. I'd be surprised if Progressive didn't get animated because A-1 can do a "Brotherhood" like thing and redo that part of the story. It would probably be phenomenal to have a 25+ anime focusing just on Aincrad. Hell, it could probably be 50 episodes since it gives detailed descriptions of each and every floor they cleared. Then we would be able to see Kirito and Asuna's relationship being more fleshed out which would be nice as well.

Though, Progressive isn't done publishing. The author I believe is just doing it as a side project and just adds to the story whenever he feels like so it may not even be done for a few years. By that time, I bet we'd have an Alicazation anime by then, so in a few years revisiting Aincrad with a Progressive anime would be awesome.

And I agree that the Aincrad arc was the strongest one, but I believe Mother's Rosario was damn close or maybe even on par. Though, according to LN readers, Alicazation is by far the best arc in the entire series. Can't wait to see what it's all about.

I'm eager to see how Alicazation plays out and I'm honestly hoping that the series has an overall conclusion soon. If it drags out to be as long as Bleach/Naruto/One Piece then I'll be disappointed.

As for Progressive, noting that it's not finished yet (and as you said, is probably being done as a side project), I believe that it should be completed with it's own different conclusion, rather than leading to ALO. What do you think?

One thing SAO isn't, is progressive.

I recently bought the first volume of the manga, and I really liked it, so I guess It would be nice to see it animated.

SAO is pretty popular, so an adaptation is very likely. the only question is when it'll be announced.

Since it is supposed to be a re-imagining / re-make, sure, why not. The premise and the setting were not what my issues were with the first time around, it was more the pacing and the characters. If they could fix those then I can see myself genuinely enjoying SAO.

Can't really say, only read a few of the stories about the first couple days that were initially side stories which I enjoyed, will have to see when a few volumes come out in English.

It is writted in the manga a note from the autor to Aniplex for they adapt it " I count on you for the anime version " in the French version ( I don't know for the English version but I supose it is the same ).
And he said the main SAO will probably end ( at least for a long time ) on the alicization arc for he writte faster the progressive serie. And the anime producers said they will continue to adapt SAO as long as it continu. So they will have no choice, they have to adapt it.
But you know, with the film and after that the season 3 ( and 4 if they slide the alicization arc but I think they will do all in the same time ) they will not have lot of time before 2020. Then with the time to prepare the project it will not be before 2022 I think.

So I'm convinced they will adapt progressive after that, probably on a long anime of at least 150 - 190 episodes ( if progressive do the 85 floors there is no choice, at least two episode for one floor, and some story will need more than two ( if there is story like the fight agains PK and resolution of crimes in high levels ) even if some floors like the second will probably take only one episode ). And the fact when they will begin there will be 6 - 10 books will make this easy.

And I apologize for my langage, as you can supose, yes I'm French and my English is not fluent.

It's actually quite an impressive novel, but there's only one volume a year. I guess there's enough for an anime since 4 volumes are already out.

It could potentially be an amazing show as well.

From reading the Progressive novels, it's written better than the original SAO. It's also what a lot of fans seemed to have wanted, a series that focused on SAO itself.
