I don't think you're looking at the entire picture.

Some users will pay no matter what, but that's because they want to support the company. There are quite a few corporations that have lost my funding due to their choices. These are companies that provide services/goods that are not easy to find. "People buy why you do it, not what you sell."

Why should someone who pays for a service get the same amount of customer service as a freeloader that uses the same services? That doesn't make sense to me. Who cares how long you've been a member on a site or a member of a company? Either you support them, or you don't. They provide these videos FREE to people who want to watch them for FREE. Customer service is not a RIGHT, it is PRIVILEGE. We are privileged to have customer service because we choose to support a company that has grown from our contributions. Anyone that gets something for FREE does not have the right to complain - period. It is something given out of charity. Do you know how much it costs to run massive amounts of servers and store massive amounts of data? Not to mention how costly it must be to be able to stream 24/7.
Stating that, paid members are not entitled to anything, either. If you dislike how a company runs their company, then create a company that does the same thing, but without the things you don't like. If you can do it, then bravo to you. Seriously. Otherwise, don't try to bash a company for trying to help out people who contribute to them versus people who contribute nothing, but expect everything.
If you didn't prioritize members, there would be chaos.
Imagine a hospital. Two people come in - one has a runny nose, the other one is bleeding profusely. The person with the runny nose came in first, and the person with profuse bleeding comes in after, but close to the same time. Your mentality is: Fix the person with the runny nose first, then after that, we can do the profusely bleeding person - They'll be okay. The person profusely bleeding will have a higher bill, sure, but more resources are devoted to them because it's more crucial.
Paid members are more crucial than free members because we help the company grow and we contribute to what they are doing. I doubt Shinji cares less for the company than they did when the company was started. To grow and prosper, you need funds. No matter what you're doing or who you are. If you do not have funding, you do not grow.

*Note to users:
This is not targeted to offend you. This is an explanation of why paid members get certain privileges, whereas others do not.

It's going to take a good amount of time for me to write what I'm going to submit. 140 characters is not a lot.

Upgrade to Premium+! So you can get a low chance at winning a trip to Japan...

The free shipping at the store is nice for people who shop a lot, but honestly I feel like Premium+ is not worth it just to get access to contests that I'd probably never win. Pretty much paying for no extra content. I certainly appreciate that as a normal Premium member I have access to all shows and manga, but there's gonna be some way to make Premium+ more attractive?

Why only Americans? Are you racist? f that!
And Canadians. The issue is not racism, and not really even their choice. Doing globally available contests is actually really difficult due to different laws about giveaways and contests in different countries. As someone who held contests for an online game previously, this was also an issue for us.

If I am a LEGAL RESIDENCE of the U.S (not a citizen) with a greencard, it means I have my country of origin's passport. That being said, would I still qualify?

Also to everyone else, please note that websites such as CR and Funimation supports this industry we all love. It also cost them money to operate- as for all business.

That awkward moment when you realize American isn't a race.

Well, I'll be going back in a little more than a month (this will be my third time). I hope the winner is someone who has never been there yet. I can't explain the first time I went, because I was so overwhelmed. And I hope the winner checks out stuff beyond the anime, manga, otaku, gaming culture. There's so much more to Tokyo, it's mind boggling.
