I had an Iphone4S for 3 years and recently upgraded to a Samsung S5. I like the screen size of the samsung and how theres a step counter with a cal counter so you dont have to download the app for it. However, the placement of the speaker sucks and the device itself uses more data than my iphone. I pay extra per month for extra data so I dont go over. Also, you have to download a flashlight app on the samsung which I find inconvenient as the update on the iphone allows you to use a flashlight easily in times of need. I am unable to YouTube using LTE sometimes and have to use data to download pics send through text. Overall, i liked my iphone better despite some of its pros. It was worth paying $30 less per month when I had the iPhone. I probably wont go back to Samsung or maybe i shouldve gotten the Note instead but they are making changes to apple that I dont think I will like such as the cord because I own a car charger and audio player only for Iphone use. My iphone is also my main music player. Sorry for lengthy comment. Its my honest opinion about the 2. The best in deciding whats best for you is having experience with it.

Apple = hardware that bends and a OS that is locked down to a degree where you can't do basic stuff without rooting...

Samsung = Touchwiz version of android that is horrible plus a crap ton of stuff pre-installed that you can't uninstall unless you root your device ... Meaning you get about half the storage for stuff that you want to install/have on your phone. Plus a CPU architecture that isn't in any other devices, meaning that there won't be many roms released for their devices.

Xperia = Pure Perfection in Sony's own version of android that truly allows you to customize your phone without the need of launchers and/or other roms.

Nexus = Pure android... What do I need to say, it's pretty awesome!

I've only had Apple so far, my iTunes library is too large for me to consider using anything else. I also have an iMac and Apple TV. Until the unlikely event that the two companies will allow their products to work better together, I'll be using iPhone.

After reading the OP, it seemed to be asking which is more marketable, apple vs samsung? Then it goes on about higher specs in the opinion of the OP does not factor so much in sales.

I think tech does factor in a lot. Mainly in the marketing side of things. Some sell a phone on it's gimmicks. Like Sony Ericsson's water proof phone. I had to google commercials for cell phones... since most of the ones I recall are for iPhone. So I looked up a ad for the samsung s6. It talked about features, mostly the specs of it's camera. The iPhone6 one went on about it changing your life, and it being.... huge. Apple has a very effective hype and marketing game. But what gets people from buying a Samsung S5 to the Samsung S6? The iPhone5S to the iPhone6? Largely marketing, and marketing talks about the tech. It does not always show the numbers like mega pixels and such, but it will say Sharper pictures, better pictures. Faster internet, bigger this and that. New=Bigger and Better.

I looked up which is doing better. Samsung or apple. I got one website saying as of jan 20115 apple iPhones had overtaken Samsung, the first time in a while. I had more results about andriod versus iPhone. So which is performing better in sales, Right now, it seems to be apple. However when the next big phone comes out, with it's new features.. who knows if apple can stay on the current top seller's list.

Ultimately, without the bullshit above. It's personal preference. They are both doing very well in the market place, they have for several years. Some buy samsung for the features, some buy it because they hate apple. Some people buy iPhone for it's features, some buy it because they love apple. They both buy their phones because they prefer that phone.

I remember getting in a "debate" with an Apple fanboy recently (after he called my new Android tablet a "shitty iPad knockoff". I was greatly offended).

I'm just gonna say it. I've never heard such an ignorant comment in my life, after I mentioned features which Android supports, which iOS currently does not. To every single feature, he had the same response...

"But I don't care about that..."

Genuinely irritated me, this guy refused to acknowledge Apple may take a second place in any area (and by the way, I mentioned features the Android community LOVES and has loved for ages, such as custom launchers, changing of default apps, user profiles and not needing iTunes to put one file on your device).

I should state. I aim not to be an Android fanboy. I realize that iOS and Android are for different audiences, and each have their own perks and disadvantages. However, If you call my device "shitty", I will happily state every point in which my device bests yours.

And that's what's called the post purchase relationship.

I'm writing this after a brief conversation with my friends about the newest cellphone models coming to market.
Lets have a civil discussion about the cellphone war going on.

Since I have to outright buy my smartphones, which is what we are talking about, that knocks down what I really want to afford. I have a hard time spending as much money as some of these companies want you to pay for these phones that don't improve signal at all.

I miss bag phones.

Sadly I have to use iPhones or Droids, because of work programs that are used on phones. So I make do with a Moto X.
