It will look at a revolutionary medical breakthrough in cancer treatment.

Vice is exploring how HIV, measles and viruses can be used against one of the world's deadliest diseases to save lives.

In Vice Special Report: Killing Cancer, airing exclusively on HBO, Vice goes inside the world's most cutting-edge cancer research labs to follow the pioneering doctors and researchers who are changing the face of modern-day medicine. The exclusive in-depth special also features some of the cancer survivors who have already been saved by this revolutionary medical breakthrough, It debuts Friday, Feb. 27, one week before the series kicks off its third season March 6.
The special specifically explores groundbreaking new treatments to fight leukemia, glioblastoma and multiple myeloma. These therapies include the use of HIV to transform a patient's immune system into a cancer-killing machine, a genetically engineered cold virus injected into a living patient's brain tumor, and millions of doses of measles infused into patients' bloodstreams. Unlike modern treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation, which leave a poisonous trail of collateral damage in their wake, these viruses infect and kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.
"So many of us have been devastated by cancer in our families. All of us have been affected by it in some way," notes president of HBO programming Michael Lombardo. "We are proud and excited to have Vice deliver such important news about this major breakthrough in the fight against cancer."
"When I first heard Emily Whitehead's story, I broke down and cried like a baby," says Vice Media founder Shane Smith. "At death's door with aggressive leukemia until undergoing radical 'immunotherapy' that actually used re-engineered HIV cells to attack her cancer [which seemingly cured her] was a story that struck a father of two young girls to his core. My life, like most people's, has been negatively affected by cancer, and the thought of my young children living in an age where this is no longer humanity's No. 1 health fear was simply overpowering. My first thought was 'How soon? How soon can we get these types of therapies to market and helping people?' I couldn't be prouder in bringing this story to the fore and hope that with growing awareness about these types of new and radical therapies that the process is sped up, and we soon see them available to those suffering from this dreaded disease."
A promo for the special and a trailer for season three of the Emmy-winning series Vice will debut before the next edition of Real Time With Bill Maher. It's executive produced by Bill Maher, Shane Smith, Eddy Moretti and BJ Levin, and co-executive produced by Jonah Kaplan.

Well, your chances of surviving cancer are getting better but I don't think cancer as a whole has any sort of cure yet.

According to the doctor is 99 percent success rate in the clinical trials.

Strange seeing this news for the first time on an Anime forum, and not on a news network. Sure it's legitimate?

Don't all the cancer cures in movies end up leading to the Zombie apocalypse?

didn't he say 90%? I could not see the full length video due to country restriction, but did they try the cure on someone with lung cancer?

There is a cure in Germany that will never come to US because this country loves to have sick people $$$$

My chemistry teacher gave me the name and address of the hospital in Germany but I lost that information I also read that drinking only green juice made of broccoli, kale, spinach (anything green) for 3 months can actually cure cancer. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785288635/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think the doctor say they need to see with what type of cancer works on and witch does't it. So far in the tumor they been putting the cure on, work 99 percent of the time but he makes it clear that they need to find out if works with all cancer types or a specific few. Is still in clinical trial. I believe only a few people had been cure of the tumor they had but the success rate with all of them has been 99 percent, basically all of them.

I saw that episode of Vice on Friday, it was pretty interesting. The results look promising, hopefully this does lead to us being able to cure people of cancer.

I don't think that there is any way to cure cancer, technically.

Cancer is a runaway production of the body's own cells. To "cure" cancer, you'd have to "cure" cell division.

Naked mole rats have a substance in their bodies that keep cells from clumping together to form tumors and are functionally immune to most cancers because of this. Treatments with various drugs and immune therapies have shown great progress. But these are either difficult to implement in humans or have side effects.

So I don't think there will be a "cure" like an antibiotic that kills all your cancer cells, at least not for a while. But as treatment options improve, I think that cancer will become an annoyance - like a sunburn - that is rarely fatal. That is probably possible in the not-too-distant future. The real trick is to make a treatment that is low cost with minimal side effects.

But I'm mostly arguing semantics.

And there ARE cars that can get 100 MPG. There really are. The problem is that to do it you have to build the engine in such a way that it burns out very quickly. It is worthless as a consumer product.

That kale smoothy might help your body fight cancer, but it could also kill you due to a protein deficiency. Oh, and you'd be shitting yourself almost constantly the whole time you were dying. SO you'd have that going for you, which is nice.

My point is that if it were that easy everyone would do it.

Half-truths and good advice taken to dangerous extremes are both worse than outright lies because their kernel of truth makes them so believable.

People tend to believe some diseases will never be cured. All I ever say in response is the same was said of smallpox and the plagues; neither of which is really life threatening anymore. I find it a bit ironic that the possible cure for cancer is pretty much the same as the historic cure for gang violence. Take bad element A running rampart (street gang A=Cancer) insert bad element B into the equation (street gang B=HIV/Measles) and let them fight to the death (turfwar). All the Doctors (Police) need to do is pickup the surviving stragglers and remove them from the equation.

Yeah, but cancer isn't one disease, it's a deadly outcome of many different diseases. The problem is stopping cancer, but allowing the bodies cells to divide normally. If we could somehow genetically enhance human cells to regrow their telomeres it may be possible. The longer humans live for the more the chances of cancer increase.
