It depends on a lot of things. The treatment (because this is a treatment, rather than a cure) in the HBO special is a possibility, but until they produce the documents that contain clinical data that supports its use, as well as all of the factors and controls that went into obtaining the data (including who supplied the funding - it's amazing how donors can affect the outcome of clinical trials ), I'd hold off on opening the champagne.

Cancer isn't a monolithic disease, as others have pointed out. Different cancers have different rates of recovery, especially if found and treated early, before the malignant cells can invade other parts of the body. There are some intelligent things that people can do to lower their risk of certain cancers: don't smoke, limit alcohol consumption, exercise and for Pete's sake, use a sunscreen with a 50+ higher SPF and more recently, vaccinating kids (boys and girls) against HPV. Cervical and ovarian cancer is a horrible way to die, so to me, the HPV vaccination is a no-brainer. Do it and do it now if you have kids, along with the MMR and tetanus vaccines.

Cure in what since? In the since that it's eliminated and will never come back? From what I understand cancer is a intrinsic disease that occurs through a myriad of reasons, while you can make it go into regression and have your body regain homeostasis you can't eliminate it. It's already been known that you can cure cancer it's just a matter of the success rate of the method being used to treat it.

The funny thing about suppressing a cancer cure is even if the cure was expensive that health insurers didn't want to cover it people would be wanting it to treat their dogs and cats. If it was dirt cheap you would have vets touting it for pets with cancers.
About kale you might want to check your iodine levels. At least in tortoises consumption can lead to goiters. Plants have been trying to poison us for millions of years notice they contain scary sounding chemicals too!

Dietary Iodine

Fibrous goitre or hypothyroidism is commonplace among captive herbivorous chelonians, particularly Geochelone elephantopus and Megalochelys gigantea maintained in zoological collections and which have been fed diets rich in vegetables containing high levels of anionic goitrogens (e.g. glucosinolates and thiocyanates) such as cabbage and kale. The condition has also been observed in hatchling T. graeca and T. marginata subjected to an identical dietary regime. The consumption of the responsible class of vegetables needs to be limited and in addition a multi-mineral supplement containing traces of iodine at a suggested dose rate of 6-10mg per Kg of supplement should by routinely provided with every meal. Vegetation from mountainous areas, or from soil rich in limestone may be lower than average in dietary iodine.
