What's your definition of the word "friend" ? How many friends do you have? Do you pity people who have no friends?
You want to post a wall of text? I'd enjoy reading it. Please tell me what you guys think. ^^

HI!

No, i don't have many friends, because to me the word friend isn't just 'the guy i sat next to in lunch' or 'Dave from chemistry' to me a friend is someone special. This is why i am happy to have an entire 1 friend.

To me a friend is someone who you can trust, not 'look after my phone' trust, but real trust, someone who you can tell anything to, and showing them that degree of trust also allows them to trust you back. (just a tip for relationships: do not start a relationship unless you both genuinely TRUST each other, if one person is not so trusting then seeing you with other people can really put them at edge)

To me a friend is someone who i can relate to, not just "yeah we both like pokémon" relate, but you need to be able to relate to that person on almost every basis. My friend and i can sit around and talk about grass (not the drug! D:) for hours and not get bored, i know this because this happened yesterday...

To me a friend is someone you get along with. (this one is kind of obvious) you need to be able to talk for hours on end without getting at each others throats, ON A DAILY BASIS. (but if you do fall out, if you are truly friends then you will be talking again within the hour XD)

If you haven't guessed yes, yes my best and only 'friend' is also my girlfriend :P

SO OP, what do you think a friend is?

Ta

'I don't think that hanging out and socializing with people necessarily makes you friends ' - a scene form the Persona 3 movies

A lot of people call me their friend but I don't think of them that way, I have online friends that I'll probably never meet and I consider them my close friends compared to my IRL friends.

I think it's different for everyone but me personally I rather not make more friends because for every friend I make another one I lose.

Someone who is there when you need them. A person you get along with and can tell everything, even your most genuine feelings. They care for you, and you care for them. Clouds will appear, but you will get through those times and be happy.

As you said, a friend isn't someone you just hang out with. Just having one friend is an achievement that's hard to accomplish, in my opinion. Btw, thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

When I was young I had many, many "friends"; people I'd hang around with, go to the arcade, play miniature golf, go bowling. They were my "friends". Years later I began to realize that none of these people were trustworthy or faithful in any way. That's when I learned the definition of the word "acquaintance". Out of my dozens upon dozens upon dozens of "friends" I had since high school I realized I didn't have one I could truly call a friend just a lot of acquaintances in passing.

In 1997 I met who I consider both the only real friend I ever had and my brother in all but blood (and I'm betting if we traced our family roots we share the same blood in there distantly somewhere). Here it is 18 years later and I know I'll always trust him with my life and would be willing to take a bullet for him. I don't know his feeling on taking bullets but he's been there for me everytime I needed support and I've tried to do the same for him. That's what a true friend does.

Acquaintances are temporary, true friends are permanent.

I easily consider people friends, but just as easily unfriend.

": a person who you like and enjoy being with"

I like this one

But a good friend is someone you can count on, help you when you fall.

A friend is someone that gives you something and you receive something from. It seems selfish, but it's true. Whether it be attention, or acknowledging your self-worth, it's always a give and take thing.

If a friend starts to ignore you, you usually are no longer friends with them, because you are no longer receiving anything from them.

I have maybe one person I really consider a friend.

I have alot of acquaintances, but ever since i left highschool i only talk to one person on a daily basis.

Friends are people who dont annoy me; are are people I can talk to and not have to censor myself.

Friends is someone that you can rely or have your back
If im going to pity a person with no friends, it depends on a person. I dont pity if a person is a jerk, rude, or horrible person and have ugliest personality..
I pity on a person if they are nice, kind and they dont have friends

A friend is someone important enough for you to go out of your way to help. Not to be nice, as if they were an acquaintance, but because you care. It may not be as strong as love, but friendship is still an unconditional bond, at least it can be.

I only have a handful of friends, including one best friend, who is more like a brother, and that's all I need.

I don't think it's my business to pity someone for having no friends, unless they constantly talk about wanting friends.
