This generation is growing up with the worlds knowledge in their pocket, and they are all heavily dependent on it. Most teenagers can't hold a conversation, and spend most of their time looking at the world through a screen. Would many of you even know how to find something in a timely manner without a gps? Do you all know how annoying you sound when all you can recite are internet memes?

This may sound condescending, but it is my observation. OP is right that there are downsides to the internet. But it is what it is, just the next step for society I guess.

imo thats the result of bad parenting, of them not wanting to spend time with their children but giving them toys like Computers and consoles so they can be silent and parents have all the time for themselves. The new Generations of children are the children of the Internet. Sad but True.

The internet is actually of great use to mankind.
Those idiots, fools, bullys and whoever would be out blowing things up instead of wasting their time arguing, complaining or conspiracy-theorizing on the internet.

OP, it is too late. You should have tried this in 1995 when the internet was still relatively young. Nip it in the bud. Now, these days, over a billion people are caught in the internet's grasp. The internet has us. People crave the internet.

Why, for instance, look at this poor fellow.

It's no use, OP. Nothing can be done. Go home OP, it's useless, you can't win this battle. It's over. Internet has us. Internet has won.

It can't be helped?

But that's what the petition is for!

I'd argue the impact the internet has had on the advancement of medical knowledge and research alone outweigh all the negative consequences of the existence of the internet mentioned in this thread. Being able to share experimental results to a large audience efficiently is a pretty big deal. Being able to access research journals from a lab instead of having to travel to an university library and hope they have the article you are looking for also helps as well.

Technically you could eliminate everything being complained about if you just removed the recreational use of the internet. Of course you'd still have millions of people suddenly unemployed if the internet was restricted to non-recreational use.

Though I have to say I am amused that someone would use the internet to start a petition to get rid of the very same internet.

The OP has to be trolling. Then again, he/she may really be stupid enough to post something like this.

Give me the chance to ban or kill everything that I can condemn while only considering the negative aspects and stupid people would probably be the first sacrifice. There aren't many greater obstacles to the progression of mankind than stupidity, and this issue is pretty easy to address. The internet is awesome. Deal with it, or move to a log cabin in the mountains. Rustic living does have its advantages.

I took great care in not hitting it, rest assured. We wouldn't want to involve innocents.
