Interesting.

I'm not sure i've ever fully grasped the waifu thing. Is it like a real sense of love, or is it just a profound connection to one specific character?

Its hard to explain but it feels like love like your connected to her because that woman has everything you want in woman you feel like you know them and you can fall for them i fell for ryuko in all my years of anime she is the first i feel for

Hmmm.

Thanks, that's a helpful description.

I'm not sure if i've ever felt that way about a character

I mean, there is a character that I love - one that I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about and that I want to defend more than all others. One who has a very special place in my heart for some oddly indescribable reason. I wouldn't call it moe either, because it is a lingering sensation. A love that persists even after the show ends.

But I do not "love" her like a waifu (that is, in a romantic sense). Yet the result is almost the same. Seeing others with similar passions call such characters their "waifus" have made me wonder if perhaps that profound connection makes her my waifu ~ even if the "love" I feel for her isn't romantic.

*Shrugs* ~ who knows.

I love Vegeta

But he's not my waifu

I love Last Order

But she's not my waifu

I love Biribiri

But she's MORE than a waifu

(I don't want to disrespect her by thinking of her in that way)

But I do use the word "love" in a very strong and genuine sense for ALL of the above characters. I've adopted them into my very soul (for whatever that may mean to you).

Could you see Shichimiya as a temporary substitute for a real girlfriend? That might be a waifu!

And oddly, I myself don't really have a definition for what a waifu is exactly. So the above is only one possible example.

Sorry. I wasn't much help

There's someone who could speak to this better than me, but he hasn't appeared here yet.

I once made fun of someone's waifu, and he got so pissed. I mean pissed. "LAWL"

I honestly didn't think people actually took it that seriously. I felt bad after that.

No, I sort of agree. Love itself is such a tricky word in English - which probably leads to a lot more confusion than their needs to be.

But LOL - Shichimiya as a girlfriend? Never. Like I said, I don't love her like that. That'd be like dating your little sister or something. Oh wait, this is an anime forum so I guess that comparison doesn't hold

But i'm glad to know that i'm not the only one who feels this way. Perhaps I just misconstrued in what sense people were using the word "waifu".

If your waifu was real, would she really love you?

What are you talking about, of course she would. I'm a perfect specimen of humanity after all, it's why I refuse to settle for anything less than the unsurpassed ideal of 2D love, rather than settling for some mediocre consolation prize in the real.
