This picture....why?

Quentin Matsys' A Grotesque Old Woman makes for a decent troll, and the gifs that I wanted to use are broken. I gave up after three tries.

I definitely consider myself casual in the Anime industry. I haven't watched numerous anime series (probably under 20 total) but I really enjoy what I watch and try to look into it as much I can. I've actually never watched Dragon Ball Z (not all of it, anyways), Bleach, Naruto or Hellsing besides what I see every now and then on Toonami.

But that's mainly why I joined this site. Quality looks good and the forum looks good, too. I wanted to expand my anime viewing and so far, I'm enjoying it.

What is an anime fan called if they have watched more than 250 series but none of them are "The Big 3"?
Actually who decided which ones are the big three? Is it just shows with a ridiculous number of episodes?

Honestly I think life's too short. Watch what you want to watch, and let people watch what they want to watch. If you call someone a 'filthy casual' because they're not hardcore or into really branching out you just look like a judgemental tit. Elitism is an unhealthy mindset in general. I've always thought you have to be a bit mentally unsound to be offended over people consuming entertainment in a way that differs from your own. I've watched a few hundred anime, but if someone was, say, a fan of the big 3, and had seen hundreds of episodes total, I think it's fair to say they're a fan. If they openly refuse to branch out and claim all other shows are crap in comparison I'd be a bit confused, but would I explode because their views differ from my own? Probably not.

No offense, but ppl who haven't watched anime long enough are as boring as your typical casual gamer. I think I'm more likely to spend more time with an elitist anime fan or a long time anime or manga fan that actually knows so much.

Nothing at all wrong being a "filthy casual" of anime . In my opinion I'd say that most of this type of hate is directed at casual watchers who embellish or overstate either how much they like anime or how much they watch. This embellishment can be done accidentally or deliberately, annoying the more hard-core or dedicated fans who see said casual as a fake or liar which in turn provokes hostility.

This is it. I try to keep hostility to a minimum so for me, worse than the person who says they love anime because they watch Naruto and nothing else, is that person who watches every silly anime they can get their hands on and thinks they're all incredible and everybody should love them too.

The "big 3" are all starter animes in my opinion, and there's nothing wrong with liking them or having some strange attachment to them, even if I don't. It's especially tough to explain to certain people that no, I did not like Gurren Lagann, I think I could have saved myself a lot of time and boredom if I had just watched the first two and last two episodes. It seems to be a universally upsetting opinion, so sometimes when I'm talking about anime with a new acquaintance I pretend I haven't seen it. I'm just not that entertained when every problem is solved by digging deep and pushing that throttle even harder.

Whew, I feel better, I'm ready for another week of it.

Meh it's the internet, full of people who like to get a rise out of others. I don't think many people really think that way. I just think it's silly. Not even a real reason to judge/dislike somebody.

Nothing wrong with being a casual so long as you aren't going around acting like you know everything. In gaming that would equate to respecting other players who actually came to play the game for what it really is.

I enjoy elitist a-holes. They are the most fun to verbally eviscerate and/or troll. I generally don't get nasty or troll much on most of the internet at all. But when I do, they're elitist a-holes! They put themselves so high up there that when they trip you can hear the face-plant for miles. I suppose that is my schadenfreude of choice.

Im pretty sure all otaku started out as a casual and eventually liked it enough to expand their experience with anime and got hooked somewhere that led them to being an otaku.

When people only watch the big 3, but then act like they know anything at all about anime is what will get my goat. I dont have issues with those who only watch a little, other than the norms anyways.

The only "filthy casuals" I have problems with, (the only people I would ever use that term for, although I can think of many other terms for them,) are the people who have; watched one or two episodes of a series and draw totally erroneous conclusions about it, then go trolling. (I remember someone trolling about Rozen Maiden and how it promotes pedophilia... )

People who have; watched only one or two shows and troll all others who have not become "enlightened."

Generally if a person has an open mind, you don't really run into that type of thinking.
You are certainly going to run into some other things related to content, (ie, I just cannot fathom the need for incest as a plot device in anything, that's one of my problems among many,) but sometimes you have to learn to agree that you are going to disagree.

There are threads I just stay the hell away from.

I've been at a lot BBSs and people seem to be more thoughtful here. I've also noticed that trouble-makers tend to go away from here too.
