Everyday Life with Monster Girls author/artist was a hentai maker it was basically a similar set up but each monster had their own short little comic with a little less detail than the current version, most of the same monsters also appear the only ones that havent yet are a minotaur(cow) and I think a Scylla. Also in the doujin version it wasnt a harem but each girl shown was dating a similar looking guy that turn out to be brothers with each other. Also they publish him in the English release by his doujin name Okayado but his actual name is Inui Takemaru.

It's a safe bet that if a manga series has a decent amount of ecchi material in it, especially bare breasts, then the artist has had some experience making porn.

Now as for one that caught me by surprise, the illustrator of the Chaika - The Coffin Princess light novels is an ero-manga artist, even drawing what is arguably the most recognizable series of Attack on Titan ero-manga.

Whoever did the Amaburi novel (or manga, maybe?) illustrations is an H artist. Apparently drew NSFW art of the girls… assets…

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the illustrator/character designer for the Henneko series also did artwork for ero-games (possibly still does, idk).

Satoshi Urushihara the brilliant artist behind the Hentai animation "Another Lady Innocent" (which is art work in its own right due to the OUTSTANDING quality of the drawings); did the artwork for the the growlanser games and anime. He also worked on Bubblegum Crisis

As far as the artists making stuff in te opposite category, meh, presumably, if you can draw people with clothes on you can draw them with none and vice versa.

I don't know about this assertion, mate. It's a pretty common problem for several character designers to be quite good at drawing characters in underwear, lingerie, etc., and then demonstrate that they've got a really poor grasp of the body underneath. (I call this the Masami Obari problem, but he's got a bunch.)

Lots of mangakas started off with making ero doujinshi, it's a great way to get noticed. Only two examples I can think of that haven't already been mentioned are Kantoku (illustrator for the Henneko light novels) who has done character work for a fair few eroges, and a fair few doujinshi; other is Tony Taka, did the character designs for the Shining series, a number of eroges and a boat load of doujinshi.

I am not surprised i mean if i was an artist would do what ever work i could. I think the industry is really difficult especially for the artist. If i was an artist offered a job for hentai and needed money or what ever I would be happy with any work i got. I don't think its a big deal not that i pay attention to the artist in H-works or anime. I don't think it does not matters. Ohh and the dark side is the best side. I wouldn't be surprised if an artist does both....I mean look at anime sometimes its hard to tell the difference both I'm not watching for the story

Dang, those girls are flat as a board everywhere except their boobs, it looks like a really really high metabolism + plastic surgery.

More on topic: I do think a lot of artists do get their start in the H-industry simply for the fact that sex sells. It's not a huge issue and some of those H-titles can actually exemplify the abilities of the artist or writer. Hell, we still see that over here in the west with directors for movies had actually directed porn as a starting point for their career

Edit: Also on topic, recently the mangaka Hisasi just came into the non H-scene with the series Union! (which sadly isn't being translated by anyone after the first chapter or it already got axed OR it was just a one-shot)

I'd agree with the previous statements about this actually kinda being the norm. In fact we had a couple of anime titles about it. Doujin Works comes to mind and dealt with the whole "there's a lot of doujin artists and they generally produce and sell until someone comes along and picks them up" sort of thing

Was it also mentioned in Denki-Ga?

Welcome to the NHK also had its dynamic duo working on an eroge... because they didn't have the resources or time to make an actual decent manga or anime series...

Which reminds me of Type MOON stuff actually.... >.>
They're always producing eroge with graphic content, and their stuff tends to have pages and pages of backstory and characters that never even get mention in the final works but are "canon". It's basically producing "something" as concept art.

Rikdo Koshi also started off with Ero Doujins, like Municipal Force Daitenzin. Then, he reused the character designs from that work in the Excel Saga manga. The anime adaptation also had a scene that joked about Rikdo Koshi's past.

the main artist/character designer for Sega's Shining series (includes anime Shining Hearts: Bread of Happiness and Shining Tears x Wind), Tony Taka, still does hentai art and doujins.

artist/character designer Kantoku (Henneko) also still does hentai art, doujins, and eroge.

Well I guess this is relevant, but the character designer for Gargatina is/was a hentai artist.
