Post Reply dub and bad voice acting, can you stand it?

I've seen and heard some BAD dubs before, but bad SUBS are REALLY bad, unless of course you know japanese.. I have a POORLY subbed , possibly fansubbed I wouldn't doubt (it is that bad) SF the Animated Movie. Some of the things Bison, Chun-Li, and Guile say are simply not right, lol. Also their names are misspelled and misread. I've rented the movie and it's subs are NOWHERE as awful as this version. Either dubbed or subbed, bad is bad, sometimes really bad, lol.

Ed: I do prefer it subtitled, though.

If it's a minor character, then I really don't mind. For example, there was Patty in Lucky Star, or Ginger from Tiny Snow Fair Sugar. Actually, most of the minor characters in that weren't too great. But I can still enjoy dubs like those.

If its one bad major character, that can get really annoying. I can't think of any examples off-hand, but I feel like I have dropped a dub or two because of that.

I think usually i just try to get used to it, and usually I can. In fact, It's rare that I ever really think that someone does a bad job unless I watch the sub first and thus have a preconceived notion of what the voice should sound like. I can't remember the last time I just thought "This acting is just bad" ~ but then again, I haven't watched too many dubs since getting into simulcasting.

I only watch subs, though when I first started watching anime I would only watched dubbed because I thought reading would be annoying. After watching in subbed I realized that it was much better and more genuine, it sounded cooler and you are not held back from watching the newest animes. Sometimes I would give dub a try but to me it seems unnatural and seems like its missing that charm that you get from the Japanese language and voice acting.

I can't stand a dub that doesn't fit the character (which is what happens most of the time, especially in a romantic comedy)

Sub all the way!

Well not an anime but I just recently started playing Atelier Ayesha. I can't believe that game got released without a Japanese voice option. Ayesha herself is fine, but Regina's voicing is just unpleasant.

Lately I've been thinking that if I first saw the anime in original Japanese, it's 99.999% certain I will not like the dub. I probably won't even bother trying it.

For shows that I watched first as dubs, I didn't mind so much.. most of the time.

I haven't really put this theory to the test yet but thinking about the dubs I like, yeah, I think they were all shows I watched first as dubs. I haven't watched a dub first in years and years however...

Yes, I can stand them. Bad subs (as in, the original cast), as well.

Some dubs I like better than subs. Black Lagoon for instance. I think the lady who did Revy's voice was spot on. Plus I like Balalaika's english voice. Glad they didn't go with the whole thick russian accent for her.

I definitely only watch subbed anime. I love the japanese voices, they suit the characters better in my opinion. But I'm probably just used to watching subbed now haha, when i was younger I watched dubbed but that was because I was lazy about reading T__T *shudder*
