I can stand the bad voice casting for dubs because English is my first language. Hearing Japanese voices is like hearing an annoying crying baby that I would love to strangle... Plus reading while something is in motion gets me sick and dizzy.

I Like certain Dubs, but to me really depends on who's in it , and how ell acted the dub is plus how close it sounds to the Japanese. I hate especially when Dubs also use the same voice actors for leads consistently as it gets old and makes me switch to subs. Sadly, I haven't watch many dubs lately for those reasons.

I used to watch nothing but dubbed anime then started watching anime network on demand and most of that anime was subtitled and some not. So I got used to watching both subbed and dubbed but then something happened that changed all that and in some ways changed me! I started watching Negima which is a funimation product and I tried watching it in Japanese but all the girls voices sounded the same so I watched it in English and it was better but as I started watching more funimation anime I started to notice they used the same english voice actors from Negima over and over again in almost every anime they got ahold of. It got to a point that I took a break from watching anime because of funimation. Thats when I got the Crunchyroll 15 day free trial and got back into anime Girls und Panzer and Teekyu were the first subbed anime I watched and I never looked back. Im so used too watching subtitled anime that if I buy some anime I don't even bother watching it dubbed now there are some anime titles that I will only watch dubbed.Lucky Star it's just too freaking hilarious in English, Rozen Maiden is pretty good in English, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I like it better in English for some reason, Azumanga Daioh is pretty funny in English especially Osaka, Princess Resurrection was pretty good dubbed, Red Garden sounded weird in Japanese so I watched it only in English, Ninja Nonsense was good either way kinda cheesy dubbed.

obtw Watamote dub was horrible! -_-

I usually stay away from dubs in general when it comes to anime, since part of my enjoyment is the language itself. Bad dub can be funny but it really has to be something special if I am gonna watch several episodes of it.

I would like to believe that, "it just depends on which one I watched first" (whether if I watched the first episode to a series dubbed or subbed) but, no, I have a STRONG preference to subbed…like, by a long shot. The voice acting in dubbed is terrible and less passionate. I try to consider the fact that maybe they're trying to make the translated words fit the mouth movement in the anime, but after ALL these years there's no reason why at this point these actors haven't perfected the script and acting skill yet. It's just not there for me, so I just skip all the criticism and just maneuver myself to subbed. It's easier this way lol

If I watched a series subbed the first time it will take me a while to adjust to the dub. I prefer subs in most cases.

It really does depend on the dub. Early dubs from the 80s and 90s tend to be more hit and miss (Robotech, Voltron, etc.). As always, YMMV on what makes a bad dub a bad dub. Dragonball Z's dub (for example) can be a little goofy, but it does hold a special place in the hearts of many anime fans. The same goes for Evangelion, Death Note (I'll take a potato chip, AND EAT IT!), and The Big O (BIG O, ITS SHOWTIME!). The one thing I hate about dubs is when no effort is put into dubbing child characters. Hearing a grown woman voice a child in her neutral voice just sounds so strange.

No. Never. Not even Pokemon anymore. I've tried to and I've realized once you experienced the real thing, there's no going back.

I agreed with the general crowd. Hard to find good dub. They always try to find a raspy badass voice (Naruto). its irritating. The acting sound forced and fake. Sub has more emotion. But to me the Fullmetal Alchemist dub was pretty good.

I used to cringe at the thought of watching dubs.

But , as anime has gained in popularity over the years , and liscensing companies have started seeing larger profit margins, the quality of the voice acting has vastly increased .

Plus , if I'm eating, i prefer to watch dubs . I dont like to eat and read at the same time.

The Free! Eternal Summer dub is the worst thing to exist in terms of recent, non "4kids" related dubbing. Holy christ on a cracker, it's horrid. Dude, bro, the unneeded cursing? It was a poignant and beautifully written show and Funi just turned it to shit.

Funi made some good dubs in the past, Ouran for one is one of my favs, but their quality has degraded overtime as they understand there is more of a demand for simulcasts and streaming. So they put more work into that as supposed to churning out quality dubs. IMHO that's why they've declined overtime.

My biggest problems with dubs are the lack of emotion in the voices. I can't stand dubs. Yes, some dubs are great, but most English VAs have a LONG way to go.
