I don't see why people are acting like that's a crazy price for a watch.

Because a hand-crafted Rolex comes from these guys

And is still cheaper than the China-built Apple Watch.

you're probably comparing an 18 carat gold iwatch, with the "regular" Rolex watch that doesn't have the 18 carat gold.
it is obvious which watch would be more expensive.

this 18 carat gold Rolex watch is almost 3 times the price of the gold iwatch, at 43,850 euros, or about $47,467 usd

What are you guys talking about, that is super affordable.

Haha just kidding... forget wearing a watch, with that kind of money I could pay off my student loan and my car. Ugh I just realized how much money I don't have.

17,000 for an ugly watch that will most likely never be used outside of playing shitty clones of Flappy Bird and Candy Crush? No thanks.

Anybody else remember when watches were meant for giving you the time of day? No? Just me? I'll go craw back into my corner now...

That's just unnecessary, but I'd rather have a smart watch then a phone since I hate having things in my pockets.

The problem with that is that you still need the newest iPhone for the watch.

people interested in smart-watches will just buy the regular
$350 smart watch, which isn't that much expensive compared to
the gear S from Samsung, at $330. Yes, you need to have at least
an iPhone 5 (released September 2012), just like you need at least a galaxy S3
or later for the gear S.

I'll just buy a 50-60 dollar G-shock since I need a heavy-duty watch for school and work. I'll use that remaining $16,940 to buy myself a REALLY nice gun, or guns. Probably an AR-15 and a .308 semi-automatic sniper rifle. Might even have some money left over for a crapload of ammo too.

And I thought my G-Shock G-7900 was an expensive investment when I bought it 5 years ago XD

TBH I would get the new pebble over this; The pebble has an ok battery, rated at 7 days, thanks to the e-ink screen.
Seriously why would you spend this much on a watch that won't last longer than about 4 years (if you have to charge it daily those charge cycles will be eaten up and that battery is gonna be awful)

Celebs and rich people that can throw that type of money away will do it just to say they're keeping up with trends.

Stupid. Unless it projects an iForcefield that can protect me from bullets, I'd never buy that thing.

I've always liked the appearance of older, automatic watches with a metal band, anyway. I still wear one such watch that was owned by my grandfather.

That tiny display is for ants, anyway. Your phone can do everything that watch can do without costing you an extra several thousand bucks.

I personally think it is better to train your own eye to recognize a good design that goes with your outfit if your goal is to get a fashionable accessory. Such an item is not always a name brand and does not always cost a king's ransom. Sadly, people with too much money or bad spending habits will probably still keep this line of watches afloat for at least a while.

why the hell do you need a smart watch? are you going to combine it with your blue tooth, that nike running device (forgot what it's called) and phone so you can be your own network? oh look I paid over $400 on a smart watch so now I can answer my phone with out reaching for it, stupidest thing ever....

It's stupid. I don't see the point. Why would I throw away my Tissot watch for that? The clock's purpose is to show time — and if I need Siri or calendars+ —I have my phone.
