We're not that bad... yet

Oh, don't worry, CR is approaching that level at an exponentially rapid pace.

Personal opinion, I make no claim that my statement is fact, these are my observations and experiences only.

Mostly the result of the age of the average user being 16-22 from what I see. I think a lot of the younger people here who have had access to some pretty impressive internet capacity their whole lives and as such, internet has played a massive role in developing their social skills and influencing opinions. Let's be honest most of the shit-talk that people spew on the web would be things they would never consider saying to someone's face, everyone is a tough guy behind a key board. Social media and even things like texting have taken a large portion of the personal aspect out of human relations. Week long conversations/arguments among complete strangers about religion/politics are largely a result of internet forums. Internet has also led the way to the era of everyone needs to stand for something, when people are forced to take a position on a controversial issue, you are going to have conflict.

The big problem with this is you don't need to have any credentials whatsoever online. Make a convincing enough argument that appeals to someone and you can sway them to your way of thinking, even if you are completely full of it.

yup......

and the internet is leaking....

More and more... and more....

(in short, you're seeing more and more internet acceptable or promoted idiocy in real life every day)

isn't 4chan the home of trolls, the birthplace of all memes?

It's more like where old jokes go to die a slow, painful, drawn-out death.

And there is no trolling on 4chan because everyone is a fucking monster.

It's actually a pretty interesting window into what a truly anonymous society would be.

Oh I don't disagree in the slightest... The horrible part is people are getting scarier than that hellhole is...

Stop.
Do not visit 4chan.
Ever, for any reason.
We don't want you there.
You don't want you there.
Your mother doesn't want you there.
Your friends don't want you there.
Go wherever you like and do whatever you want, so long as those things don't involve being on 4chan.

My first visit to 4Chan was about 5 years... I went to /b/ since that seemed to be where most of the controversies started.

Yeah....

First thing I saw was an extremely sexually graphic picture of child girl, she looked no older than 8.

I almost vomited, never went back, no idea if that's common practice on that section or not, didn't care to to find out. That first impression was enough to leave a nasty taste in my mouth.

The worst part about image boards is the general misinterpretation you constantly see of it everywhere. There is much more than meets the eye, that is certain. It really takes a long time to understand how things work and why certain things are like that. It's not for everyone.

Reddit is probably the last bastion of sanity. Well, depends which sections you frequent. There are tons of really smart people there and you never run out of interesting stuff to read.

Just be glad we're not like Tumblr or the Figment forums or something.

I just know that crazy things happen with 4chan. There are stuff that's quite bizarre that I can see whenever I go to visit that site. It's extremely easy to lose sanity when stuff like that happens. It served its purpose back in the day, but now there are other places for those pics.

Today I get to hear a raft of Tumblr-ese in the real world after commenting that some things are problems that should be fixable if you just cut down on the crazy and actually attempt to fix them.

That in and of itself is a little crazy and further proof that the worst parts of the internet seem to be leaking the fastest. but it gets worse.

At work today I also got to witness someone eating a dog treat i put on the floor today. this was after having our rep visit and tell me how OTHER dog treats tasted... It's all human grade ingredients so I suppose it's ok, but, it's kinda like "WTF?" am the only one that thinks pet foods are for, ya know, pets?

Of course then i also got to hear the story about how someone believes in aliens after watching some history channel "documentaries while getting my coffee, and also a very casual conversation about BDSM, followed by where to buy some decent risotto. Some random person on the streets while walking home decided I was the person to say something incredibly harmless and nonchalant to me and then follow it by, "hey, do you know anywhere I can get some crank?"

...............

There's a point where your mind just breaks.

I've never eaten one of the floor, but I've had a dog treat before. Y'see, they make dog food with ingredients for humans because in the Great Depression, that's what a lot of people ate to survive.

But yeah, why I ate one? Well, my aunt likes to bake and she spoils her dogs. So she made them dog treats with vanilla frosting. I didn't realize they were dog treats, and ate a few. Tasted pretty damn good with that frosting.

Nowadays 4Chan is a place for posting memes, leaked manga spoilers, and waifus. I post often on /a/ and /vp/; people are pretty cool and funny in those sections. /mu/ seems bland nowadays, but people still have some good taste in music.

I stay away from /pol/, since I don't like arguing, and all those other hardcore sections.

love, 4chan

Hold yourself to what you think right, but do not demonetize any group of social, ethnic, or racial relation in this world if you plan on being considered part of the norm in modern society.

Even if you understand the significance of what a word can do, let this be something to learn from.

I'm casually disinterested. I don't feel extremes in emotions lol. So long as it's not something coming out of my mouth, I'm not going to care much.
