If you were put in charge of structuring a new city, or any other place for a community to live (Towns, Villages, Etc.), what would you have built? Houses, apartments, schools, restaurants, fast food, markets, malls, farms? Be a little descriptive. The size of the city is up to you and there's no budget. Well, be reasonable. Nothing bigger or pricier than an existing metropolis.

It would be filled with skyscrapers. Each tower block would have things like community centres inside them to encourage community value. These include play areas for children, multiple football/basketball and tennis courts (possibly with one bigger football stadium inside to encourage community rivalry), shops, a café and possibly a pub or a nightclub but that's iffy. It would have a major football stadium (just one to avoid sectarianism and hooliganism) to encourage people to think like a city and create unity - even if we struggle to get into the SPFL.

Schools are necessary so they would be included - possibly inside the tower blocks but that's once again iffy. Hopefully a university would also be built there - hopefully a good one. There is a ban on having fast food places too close to schools in Scotland though so kids would end up going to the nearest café and hoping that their stuff isn't overpriced.

There would be a city centre with all the shopping centres inside it. Having a bustling city centre is important in the city. I'd make the roads oversized to cope with all the traffic that will be directed into the city centre.

The city would be surrounded by farms as usual - most towns in Scotland are and it's often just a little bit of farmland that separates the towns.

Well for one, cities are over-rated.

To hell with that, we'll strive on our own as a Potato farming company- Socially owned of course..

My SimCity experience determines that I like variety, despise abandoned buildings, favor forests surrounding urban life, have a taste for lavish constructions, will ruthlessly demolish occupied structures on a whim, and that I sadistically enjoy natural and man-made disasters.

Don't put me in charge.

I wouldn't bother with a city, but if I had the budget for one, I'd use it to create a viable standard town in the mountains, using the heap of extra money to increase the standard of hospitals, security measures, points of access to and from the city to allow easier travel and other essentials such as power stations, police stations, fire brigades etc. shopping centers and making sure home properties are all to a certain standard. (not little crap shacks, but decent houses with room for a front and back yard etc.)

Well... I think I'd be lazy and just make one GIANT tower with malls, housing, and schooling all in the building. It would be a pretty big building, with highly advanced security systems to keep the hole place from burning down because some bimbo thought turning the oven to 800 degrees (F) would cook the pizza twice as fast... My ex wasn't the smartest woman.

Sadly, I doubt I would do very good managing my own city, just ask Sim City.

like ancient romans or greek... lots of pillars... and those climbing vines thing.

don't know what is happening to me, i was never this way before... but architectural aesthetics is becoming more and more important to me for some reason; like i can't stand the telephones wires everywhere i go in modern civilisation... antennae... etc... they're just not... beautiful.

cars... cracked pavement... uncut grass... are all making me feel frustrated... like i wish i could fix these things on the spot.

and i like symmetry in buildings and pillars... so i loved the taj mahal. i also love water... so i love a city with a water port or a water canal running through it.

Taj mahal is truly amazing in person, if you guys never seen it in real time, go and see it... the pictures don't do it justice :O i felt like i was in a different time period...

Some cool responses here. I like it.

I also like how some of you are just "I shouldn't be trusted with that kind of responsibility." I feel you.

A city, huh? Maybe something like Academy City in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. Those who've seen it know what I'm talking about.

I'd make a really small traditional village with little houses that have good heating systems and lots of windchimes and blankets~ i'd built it in a snowy area with lots of trees and we could all just wear our pyjamas and there would be a little movie house where we could stream anime and chickens would roam the streets and everyone would be really happy and weed would be legal~

I'd also go the small town or village route. Mostly one story houses with solidly structured basement/storm shelters that could withstand the strongest of hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes. All roads/sidewalks/driveways/walks would contain those heating coils that melt snow as it hits (can't remember what they're called). The village would be almost a square shape with the center being an entertainment/dining/service/shoppe zoned area. All zones would be connected by a streetcar/tram system. One zone would be specific for housing to those in need (common living estates). Electricity to the town/village supplied by a combination of solar/hydro-electric/wind turbine sources with battery backup generators in case of natural disaster. All water will be supplied by natural springs in the area and all food through hunting/fishing/farming.
