The truth of the matter is that if the son were a daughter it wouldn't have gotten this much attention, it's just one of those things that can embarrass a guy that his mother does this for him, " fights his battles" , or if it's over something perceived as 'feminine' as dolls, but if he were a girl noone would find it the least bit embarrassing IMHO.

This is true for any anime, i see a lot of girls on the forums that list a lot of Shounen or heavy guy targeted anime as some of their favorites and i see a lot of guys list Shoujo and the likes for their favorites.

Like what you like and enjoy it, who cares if you like girly stuff as a guy or manly stuff as a girl. Maybe one day our society will stop labeling people and things and just go with the flow.

I wish my parents showed any interest in stuff I like like this... closest I got was my mom enjoying one episode of Inuyasha. And my dad's so closed-minded that he thinks it's all porn. But I like this, she gets an award.

I think when my mother found out I was an otaku , She helped me out and didn't care as long as I had good grade , and didn't get into trouble. So she accepted it. I was Really happy that my own mother didn't judge me.

I already told my family about my hobbies. Heck, my parents even bought me anime DVDs when I was younger. Even now as I am older, my mother sometimes offers to pay for my Crunchyroll and Funimation subscriptions for my birthday for a couple months. I don't collect anime figurines due to their cost, but I do have some unopened Naruto figures in hopes maybe one day when Naruto is long forgotten it might be worth something. I'm talking Naruto, not Naruto Shippuden. If someone were to ask me if I were an anime fan, I would answer honestly.

In High School, you are socially awkward if you have these types of hobbies and it really made me a shy person, but as I grew up I really don't give a crap what people think about me. They have their own lives and I'm sure they have something they are embarrassed about as well.

people would think this is embarrassing, but the guy is putting his hobby in a public space, he's clearly not embarrassed. I'd say Mom helping out could be embarrassing, but then again she's helping him put something in a public space he would stop doing it if that was embarrassing. I've told my family now and then when I picked up hobbies and dropped them because I got "that's awesome!" and just left to my own devices as no one had any actual interest or gave any support. I tried drawing but I don't go back to it often largely for similar reasons. supporting this guys hobby regardless of what it is should be parenting 101
