Hello everyone.

If there is one country I want to travel to outside my continent, it's definitely Japan.
I think I could manage that well enough, we can talk about it more in another thread in the future. This thread is about my only real concern when I think of travelling there. What will I eat?

TL;DR
I eat: meat, fruits, salmon, potatoes, pastas and rice
I don't eat: Any other seafood or vegetables.
Can I survive in Japan?

I'm as shy a gastronomical explorer as it gets, an issue I'm working on but frankly am not making a lot of progress with.
Veggies for instance trigger my gag reflex. I don't actually find they taste so bad in general, so i was wondering why. Mom provided a lengthy possible explanation that i will spare you.

So, as far as veggies go, potatoes are fine. I use a trick sometimes where i scatter finely cut carrots and such throung mashed potatoes and that goes well but it's the best i managed so far.

I also hate seafood, wich i suppose will also be another major setback...
I like salmon so i'll try to extend that to other fish too.

Fruits are fine. Rice and pasta also.

Thanks for any help and advice.

Why don't you eat vegetables? That's pathetic.

Anyway, Saizeria is very cheap. Eat there. They've got pasta and potatoes.

Seafood is your biggest issue.

I would suggest you look into Japanese food and go from there.

I know, it's very embarrassing too. You know that moment at a Christmas party when you have to eat at least a bite of everything that everyone has made or else they might feel like you think it's not good? And i'm conscious of that but i also imagine what auntie would feel if she saw me fighting my gag reflex over it and figure it's probably best not to, and then give out under the pressure and shove that sandwich in my mouth and - oh god - and them my uncle sees that and tell me me to give myself a break but i still feel excellently uncomfortable.... -sigh-

Yes, it's pathetic.

Thanks for the advice though

Thanks to everyone else too.

Meh, it's pretty easy to manage without the sea food to be honest. But the vegetables? What do you even eat S:

Just avoid sushi restaurants and you're good. It's probably not that simple, but it should solve your fish problem. Just order the things that you usually order from a Japanese restaurant where you live.

There are tons of noodle shops (often with ticket vending machines that make ordering significantly easier if you don't speak fluent Japanese). Onigiri are easy to find in Family Mart and the like. Omurice, ochazuke, and other rice dishes that come in veggie-less varieties are easy to come by as well.

I think it's surprising how healthy i am given my shameful diet. I can drink veggie juice just fine but i'm not certain that substitutes the real deal.

I can't imagine not eating vegetables. Especially when eating out. Everything has vegetables in it. Unless you order plain pasta, or plain soup broth, or plain pizza, or plain burger, or plain rice, plain, plain, plain, plain....

I guess you could just eat Gyudon every meal and eat around the onions....

It would be a good idea to know some Japanese words for various food items. That way you won't end up buying something you don't like.

Also, are you okay with dashi (broth or stock that usually contains fish)? Cause many of those noodle places use that.

So no spaghetti or other dishes that use tomatoes? Sorry for the questions but I think it's rather interesting.
