"Every night throughout this world, at least one person is dreaming about this face."

"In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.

That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist's desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.

The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as "THIS MAN."

It is old school news.. but this thought keeps popping back in my head at times. What do you guys think about this so-called phenomenon?

Sounds like it's related to "collective subconscious" theories. Once the face has been seen by some, it will be seen by others with increasing frequency, despite the unlikelihood (even impossibility) of those people having actually encountered it. It's pretty interesting stuff.

Not sure if I buy into it, of course. I personally have never seen the face before, and this sort of thing could quite easily take advantage of the fact that our memories aren't perfect. Maybe they actually did see a similar face, and because of the look of the face itself and the setting they discussed it in, they assigned a particular "role" to this face, unaware that they'd just invented it on the spot. Still, even that calls to attention things such as how we as a culture or even a species interpret faces. Unless it's a total hoax, it's a neat little thing to think about.

If I did, I had forgotten about it. Watch me get sleep paralysis and all I see is that face.
