Well, the manga is also pretty stupid and somehow even more sexually explicit......But its also a hell of a lot more coherent, has more tolerable characters and barely resembles the anime story wise. Also no gore whatsoever. Not even the same scenes sans gore.

What the fark happened with the anime? It seems more vaguely based on than adapted. I only read a few chapters but there was only like 2 story points in the manga that actually match the anime. The anime seems to be mostly off tone filler with the occasional scene from the manga randomly inserted somewhere.

I keep seeing threads like this over and over. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, but in my opinion in the history of any form of entertainment there has been very few adaptations i.e. novel to movie, game to movie, manga to anime, etc. etc. that have ever been even semi close to the original work. If you're looking for something to be as good as or surpass the original I think you'll be hard pressed to ever find such a thing. Just my two cents.

I mean, thats certainly a valid observation for a lot of media. But the problem here is that the anime is barely an adaption to begin with. It has the same character names and a couple of similar events. But otherwise it seems to be just doing whatever the fark it wants and even changing genres in the process.

Sure, you can't expect the movie adaption of Ender's Game to be exactly like the book. But you'd be pretty miffed if you went to see it and it turned out to be a whacky romantic comedy with Harrison Ford trying to grudgingly accept Ender's new alien fiancée into the family ( Hijinx ensue ).

That or a new director .

Hmm, could be. Looks like this is only his third series as a director. But its also his third manga adaption and he didn't go nutball with the other two. So its still pretty weird to dovetail what sounds like a harem romcom into blood and gore. Unless he was told too from on high.

Maybe he trying do so something new ? Who is the studio doing the anime ?

ARMS is the studio I think. They have done a number of darker shows ( Elfen Leid, Kite, etc ) but they're perfectly capable of pulling off a romcom too if they want. I wonder if this went into production during the Attack on Titan craze or something and they wanted to jump on board. -.-

Fuck, I starting to bealive this is a cash grab

The romance genre generally does not interest me.

I agree with the OP. Haven't read the manga so I cannot comment on the anime adaptation of it. But it is truly terrible.

I will pick on the protagonist Shinichirō Asano mostly here. The thought that crossed my mind after watching him watch the umpteenth person getting brutally slaughtered in front of him was 'he's a sociopath'. He would have to be and a severe one at that. The way he can return to being his normal self, completely unchanged with no sign of worry for well-being himself or anyone else, not a thought or consideration for the dead. He also seems to be terminally stupid. In most harems people don't die, sometimes monsters do and sometimes people fight each other but deaths are rare or nonexistent, so a blase attitude from the main character can be accepted.

Thats sort of the weird part. No one gets brutally slaughtered in front of him in the manga ( or at all. Every scene of brutally slaughtering is purely the anime's invention ). So its like they're maintaining his manga personality with no regards to all the crap they've inserted into the anime. Though in some fairness he's somewhat less of a god damn idiot in the manga from what I've read. Not by much granted, he's still the standard spineless indecisive harem MC that manages to go down on every female character by accident within 10 minutes of meeting them. But he's not quite as much of a worthless sack as he is in the anime. Isuca isn't quite as much of a raging swamp hag either.

The first kiss between them in the manga has absolutely nothing to do with naked spider monsters and creepy sex death magic either. In the manga its an accident ( arranged by Suseri to try and reveal her true name ). Not a life or death oh god does that spider have TITS? What the fuck man? scenario.

But to be fair every person is different. Maybe he sociopath or he more mentally strong than other people. Or he could be immune to dead.

That'd be a 180 on his character in the manga. Also, giving the writers of this dumpster fire far too much credit

First of all, I haven't read the manga, so I can't really comment about that other than the fact that I'm well aware that the show has just about nothing to do with the manga. In any case, this is just a disaster, starting with trying to cram so much into ten episodes while showcasing fanservice, gore, and sheer stupidity, which made this easy for me to drop this to the trash heap. When there's censorship in the first moments of the show, that's an ominous sign of things to come, and then going straight into the thick of things without establishing the characters sets the stage for a laundry list of problems to go down.

From what I can tell the anime is crap compared to the manga. Couple that with my opinion that the manga is kinda crap as well and I don't know how folks can even stomach to watch the anime.
